What is Advantage Multi?
Advantage Multi for is a once a month topical application that contains a combination of the insecticide (imidacloprid) and the parasiticide (moxidectin). Advantage Multi for Dogs is used for the prevention of heartworm and the treatment and control of flea infestations, hookworms, roundworms and whipworms. Advantage Multi for Cats is used for the prevention of heartworm and the treatment and control of fleas infestations, roundworms, hookworms and ear mites. Advantage Multi for Cats is also the first and only approved product to kill adult fleas, treat flea infestations and prevent heartworm disease in ferrets. Advantage Multi requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

How it Works:
The active ingredient moxidectin is used for the prevention and control of heartworms and intestinal worms by disrupting nerve transmission resulting in the paralysis and death of the parasite. The active ingredient imidacloprid, acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death.
Cautions:
Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs persist, or become severe, consult a veterinarian immediately. Safety has not been established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs.

Advantage Multi for Dogs is available in the following concentrations; Advantage Multi 9 containing imidacloprid 40mg and moxidectin 10mg in 0.4ml tubes for dogs 3-9 lbs, Advantage Multi 20 containing imidacloprid 100mg and moxidectin 25mg in 1 ml tubes for dogs 9.1 to 20 lbs, Advantage Multi 55 containing imidacloprid 250mg and moxidectin 62.5mg in 2.5ml tubes for dogs 20.1-55 lbs, Advantage Multi 88 containing imidacloprid 400mg and moxidectin 100mg in 4 ml tubes for dogs 55.1 to 88 lbs, and Advantage Multi 110 containing imidacloprid 500mg and moxidectin 125mg in 5 ml tubes for dogs 88.1 to 110 lbs. What should I discuss with my veterinarian before applying Advantage Multi for Dogs and Cats:
Tell your veterinarian if your pet is breeding, pregnant or lactating since safe use of this product in these animals has not been determined. Do not use in animals allergic to Advantage Multi or either of the individual ingredients, imidacloprid (Advantage, K9 Advantix) or moxidectin (ProHeart).
How should this medication be used:
Advantage Multi is applied topically to the skin. It is not given by mouth. Follow the manufacturer's directions for application. Do not apply to irritated skin. Apply each dose once a month, every 30 days. If you do not understand the directions, or if you have difficulty applying the medication, contact your pharmacist or veterinarian. Store Advantage Multi for Cats at temperatures between 39° F and 86° F, avoiding excess heat or cold.
What happens if I miss giving a dose:
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time to apply the next dose, skip the missed dose and apply the next dose as directed. Do not apply 2 doses at once.
What happens if I overdose the pet:
Seek emergency veterinary medical treatment. Symptoms of overdose may include depression, increased salivation, tremors, or incoordination.
What should I avoid when applying Advantage Multi for Dogs and Cats:
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. Do not use in dogs under 7 weeks of age or less than 3 lbs. Do not use in cats under 9 weeks of age or less than 2 lbs. Do not use Advantage Multi for Cats in ferrets under 2 lbs. Do not use on animals that are sick, debilitated, or underweight. Do not use Advantage Multi for Dogs on a cat. Do not use Advantage Multi for Cats on a dog. Do not allow any animal to lick the application site for 30 minutes. Separation of treated animals may be necessary. Children should not come in contact with the application site for 30 minutes after application. Advantage Multi can cause eye irritation and be harmful if swallowed. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling.
What are the possible side effects of Advantage Multi Dogs and Cats:
If any of the following serious side effects occur, stop using Advantage Multi and seek emergency veterinary medical attention; an allergic reaction (facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma). Contact your veterinarian if your dog shows scratching, rubbing, licking the application site; lethargy, decreased appetite, or hyperactivity. Contact your veterinarian if your cat shows lethargy and prolonged periods of sleep; behavioral changes including agitation, excessive grooming, hiding, pacing, etc.; discomfort at the application site (rubbing, scratching, etc.); increased salivation within 1 hour of treatment; increased drinking; or coughing. A medicinal odor and residue at the application site may also be seen. If the dog or cat ingests the product or licks the application site, serious adverse effects may occur including depression, salivation, incoordination, panting and tremors. Hair may appear stiff, matted oily, or damp after application. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to the animal.
What other drugs will affect Advantage Multi for Dogs and Cats:
Talk to your veterinarian or pharmacist regarding any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, and other flea and tick products your pet is using.
Directions:
- Advantage Multi for Dogs and Advantage Multi for Cats are prescription medications used for the prevention of heartworm disease.
- Advantage Multi for Dogs is used in dogs for the treatment and control of flea infestation, hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms.
- Advantage Multi for Cats is used in cats for the treatment and control of flea infestation, roundworms, hookworms, and ear mites.
- Advantage Multi for Cats is also the first and only approved product to kill adult fleas, treat flea infestations and prevent heartworm disease in ferrets.
Tip:
For the first 30 minutes after application ensure that dogs and cats cannot lick the product from the application sites. Separate treated pets from one another and from other pets to reduce the risk of accidental ingestion. Wash hands with soap and water after handling. Do not let children touch the treated pet's skin for at least 30 minutes after applying the product. Do not get these products in the pet's mouth or eyes.

I bought this a week and something ago, to start with in February's monthly preventative. We have two dogs, but one was completely out of preventative while the other was not (ironically, they are actually in the same size range for this medicine, but one is on the lower end and the other is on the higher end (28 pound smooth fox terrier mix, and a 55 pound labradoodle). I will later be ordering it for the smaller one, as she will run out of her (now discontinued) medicine in two months. Now, onto my thoughts. it arrived saturday of last week (thanks postal service for failing to deliver on suggested day of friday) and i put it on her that afternoon. i do like that this medicine has a 30 minute dry time (its nice that it is so short). The time came and went very quickly. i gave both of them a bath monday evening. So far so good with this medicine (though this is the first month and it is still winter here, so i dont think many fleas would be out....). Will be ordering it again for the smaller one. Same size category, different dog (glad that this company adds a label....) i wish it was a little cheaper, but coupon promos are nice, and its peace of mind knowing we wont deal with fleas (which could definitely be something to be more put to the test once spring starts hitting; as well as the real test being with the smaller dog and how she does with this medicine (she had a suspected adverse medicine reaction in july) as compared with other preventatives she has been on).

Love it
My cat tends to get ear mites in the winter and this is the only medication that keeps them at bay. This also keeps him free of everything except ticks and tapeworms so I really like to keep him treated with Advantage Multi so that I have very few worries about pests on my cat!

Does NOT Keep the Fleas Away
This medicine seems to be good for heartworms, but my dog has picked up fleas twice while on this medication, and I had to spend money treating him, when I already paid for the preventative. It's frustrating, and I'm now searching for new options.

This product is great
This is a great product. It worked great for two months then my puppy was starting to get fleas again. I took him to the vet and the vet gave me this flea medicine plus a one time dose of nexguard. That combination has worked wonders together. Now I only have him on the advantage Multi and he has no fleas.

advantage works great!
my little 11 pound longhaired dachshund has been on advantage multi since he was 5 mon. old. he is now a year old. so far, there has been no sign of fleas, or any kind of worms. i am very satisfied with this product and would recommend this to anyone that has a dog.

can i combine anything with this to prevent ticks?
can i use frontline or seresto with advantage multi to prevent ticks aswell? our state gets lots of ticks
You may use other products to control ticks with Advantage Multi, but you may be "double dosing" on flea control depending upon the product you choose. I recommend the Preventic Collar, which only does ticks and will last 3 months. You just have to make sure the collar is in close contact with the skin, not loose around the neck, and about half way through the 3 months, take the collar off and scrape the inside to remove dirt and oil build-up to get back down to fresh collar.

Ingesting Advantage Multi
I know the product is to be applied at the base of the neck where the cat will not be able to lick it. But cats are clever, they squirm, etc. and they may find a way to lick it. Please tell me how harmful it would be if a cat ingested all or part of the product. This question is for everyone but more for the manufacturer, vets, pharmacists, etc. Thank you.
Ingestion of all of the product that has recently been applied may cause some stomach upset, but since the product does spread fairly rapidly (within 12 hours) after application, and treats intestinal worms in cats because they groom themselves and ingest the product, I wouldn't be too concerned.
