What is Glyco-Flex for Dogs (Stage I)?
Glyco-Flex for Dogs (Stage I) is a nutritional supplement (stage I of a comprehensive program for dogs), containing glucosamine as well as Perna Canaliculus (green lipped mussel - which is a good source of protein, minerals, and chondroitin sulfates). It is used for maintaining healthy joints, and is recommended for younger dogs or dogs predisposed to hip or joint dysfunction. It is available as natural imitation roast chicken flavored chewable tablets. Glyco Flex for Dogs is made in the USA.

How it works:
The active ingredients include glucosamine and Perna Canaliculus (green lipped mussel). Glucosamine is a natural compound that is found in healthy cartilage in both humans and pets. It helps hydrate healthy joints by increasing the production of molecules that bind and hold water in the cartilage. Healthy cartilage provides cushioning which helps protect a pet's joints while exercising. Many believe that it provides clinical benefit in the synovial fluid by strengthening cartilage and aiding glycosaminoglycan synthesis. Further research on the effectiveness of glucosamine is still needed, but many of our customers find it to be very beneficial to their pets.
Cautions:
Diabetic dogs or dogs that are overweight and have problems with glucose tolerance should have their blood sugars monitored if they are given glucosamine supplements.

What is this product used for
Glyco-Flex I is the first stage of the program providing basic support for younger dogs or dogs predisposed to hip or joint dysfunction.

Glyco-Flex I is a non-prescription (OTC) product.
How this product should be used:
The usual dose of Glyco-Flex I for the first 4-6 weeks in dogs up to 30 lbs is 1/2 tablet. For dogs 31-60 lbs use 1 tablet, for dogs 61-100 lbs use 2 tablets and for dogs 101 lbs and over use 2 1/2 tablets. The maintenance dose for dogs up to 30 lbs is 1/2 tablet every other day, for dogs 31-60 lbs is 1/2 tablet, for dogs 61-100 lbs is 1 tablet, for dogs 101 lbs and over is 1 1/2 tablets daily.
In the event of overdose:
Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.

There are no reported side effects.
What special precautions are there:
This product is for animal use in dogs only. Glucosamine, in humans, may increase insulin resistance and consequently affect glucose tolerance. Diabetic dogs or dogs that are overweight and have problems with glucose tolerance should have their blood sugars monitored if they are given glucosamine supplements.
How should I store this product:
Store in a cool, dry, place. Keep out of the reach of children.
Directions:
- Glyco-Flex I for Dogs can be given with or without food.
- If giving more than 1 tablet daily, divide between AM and PM.
Tip:
Diabetic dogs should have their blood glucose monitored when taking glucosamine supplements.

What A Difference!!!
Toby is almost 13 years old and is having arthritis issues. She couldn't open her mouth wide nor could she handle steps very well. Soon after we got her on this product, we started to see improvement -- that was about a year ago. Now she can yawn, run up and down the steps and pretty much do what she wants. By the end of the day we can see some fatigue, but that's normal for a dog of her age. We're very pleased with how Glyco-Flex has worked for her.

My dog hates this
These pills may be listed as chewable, but my dog just spits them out. Apparently they taste like garbage. I had to give them to him like a pill wrapped in a pill pocket. Then, about a half hour later, he throws them up (even when they were given after he had eaten.
A total waste of my money.

this stuff really works
Started my 9 yr old dog on Glyco-Flex I on my vets recommendation when she exhibited frequent stiffness and limping in her front legs. By the time we were down to the maintenance dose (6 wks) she was clearly feeling relief. She happily chases after squirrels and bunnies without "paying for it" a few hours later.Highly recommend for anyone whose dog is showing early signs of arthritis.

so much for chewable
Although I know this has good ingredients it is far from being chewable for my dog. She has been on 2 other brands that she thought of as "treats". Now I have to smother the Glyco-Flex in cheesewiz to even get her to eat it!

wow my dog was literally walking on three legs before we started using these pills. His joints were in so much pain he didn't want to put pressure on them. after taking them he's actually running through the yard and the house. He doesnt like the taste so i just crush two of them and sprinkle in his wet food

Worked well for cold weather stiffness
I gave this to both of my aging Dobermans last winter and it seemed to make them much less stiff and more agile. I stopped it in the warm weather but am ordering it again this fall. Our vet said the green-lipped mussel in Glyco Flex makes it more effective.

Seems to help
I got this for my daschund. He had disk problems a few years ago requiring surgical intervention and he has been in obvious pain since.
It does seem to help. He moves without limping now and the range of motion of his 'bad' back leg is better.
He won't take them as treats, which if you know daschunds tells you the taste really needs improvement. If I drop half a tab in with his food he eats it with no problems though.

which Glyco flex?
My 4 year old Labrador has HD and I give him an European product, but they don't have it in the states. If I give him Glyco Flex, do I give him classic, or I or II or III ?
And my 8 month old Border Terrier puppy got diagnosed with HD as well, so which one should I give her?
You would definitely want to check with your vet prior to giving these supplements to ensure it will not affect the HD and they will also inform you as to which one would be the best for each of your dogs.
