Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution Hydrocortisone Free for dogs and cats treats the external ear for acute and chronic inflammation caused by bacterial, viral, and yeast infections. How it works:
Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution has what the manufacturer calls a Three-Point Enzyme System. Each enzyme - lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, and lactoferrin - has its own unique properties that, when combined, becomes a powerful antimicrobial formula.
The antibacterial property of the lactoperoxidase is based upon inhibiting vital bacterial metabolic enzymes. Lysozyme kills bacteria by disrupting the formation of a glycosidic bond between the two components of peptidoglycan, a constituent of the bacterial cell wall. Lastly, lactoferrin - an iron-binding protein - is bacteriostatic against a wide range of microorganisms, which means it inhibits the growth of the bacteria.
Cautions:
Do not use this product when using any other topical ear medications or cleansers, since the enzyme activity of Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution Hydrocortisone Free may not work.

How this product should be used:

Works awesome!!
We took in a senior bulldog with chronic ear problems. She had swelling causing hearing difficulties prior to using the meds. The swelling has reduced drastically and she is hearing again!!!

As soon as I received this med, I used it on my dog who is 15 years old and has always had ear problems (yellow lab). The very next day he was more active than he has been in a very long time. I am grateful I found this product. Thank you.

My dog has had chronic ear issues for a long time.
I used this product for 14 days and the change is amazing. Ears look pink and healthy. He willingly lets me perform the treatments. I have to put a Gentle Leader on him first. I will continue a little longer as I can still see some infection deeper.

Bear is a big, strong, serious dog. In 7 years, I've never heard him cry - till I saw him desperately rubbing his inflamed ears. It was heartbreaking. His ears have been a recurring problem for years. This products is the ONLY thing that has ever worked. It took a few days to get things under control but now Bear's ears are much better. He hates anything dripping down into his ears so my own method is to slip an old sock over my hand, soak the end of the sock with Zymox, apply it to his ears, and immediately wash the sock.

Relief!
I admit being skeptical about the purported benefits of this product. Boy was I wrong. Zeus actually WANTS his ear treatment each evening. He hears better, the scratching and rubbing has stopped. He feels better, too! Knowing this is available, I will keep some handy. Am also surprised at the amount that comes in this small bottle. Thank you for helping my Big Guy!

Ears cured!
I purchased this product not really thinking it would help with my dogs ears, but at this point I figured it couldn't hurt.I have been to more than one vet with bills after bills, with no results to helping his ears which were infected , itchy and very smelly.After a week of using this product the results have been amazing.Im not one to write reviews but this time I had to!

I was really broke and couldn't afford the bacterium test from the vet for my dog's ear infection before he would prescribe something. I know over the counter medicine can be beneficial, but never thought they would work as good as a prescription medicine. Well this does! After four days of treatment, my dog's ear was no longer red on the inside. After 7 days, there is no sign of infection. The small bottle had plenty to treat for a couple weeks if needed.

Can i use the product if my cat has no ear drum?
Hi there, This medication is not dropped in the ear it is simply massaged in the ear however it would be a question to ask your vet since he would know your Furry Baby the best.

This does not have a scent. Active Ingredients: Natural Enzymes, Lysozyme, Lactoferrin, Lactoperoxidase. It does not list any inactive ingredients. As with many pet products, Many companies have Proprietary inert ingredients which any product could have. It is a way manufacturers do not reveal their ingredients so other companies do not copy there product. The EPA/ FDA are aware of the ingredients but the company is not required to disclose it to the public. You may contact them directly

Ear infections and allergies
Seems like our golden retriever has had too many ear infections these last 3 years. We understand it is from allergies. He scratches less now that we found a food that is working finally. But he just came down with another ear infection so I had some extra Otibiotic from the vet last time.
Our vet suggested we give him one adult size 50 mg Benadryl non drowsy to help him with his scratching but I don't want to do this.
I am confussed, do I order the ZymoxOtic Enzymatic Solution Hydrocortison Free product or the Zymox Otic topical ear maintenance?
Which one clears up an ear infection and which one is weekly maintenance?
How long do I wait to use the correct Zymox after I stop the Otibiotic?
We are very sorry to hear about your furry baby's ear infections. Both Zymox Enzymatic Solution with hydrocortisone and the hydrocortisone free Zymox will clear your furry baby's ear infection. The only difference in the two is that one includes hydrocortisone which helps with the itching and the other one is hydrocortisone free. Both forms comes in two sizes, 1.25 oz and 4.0 oz. For acute infections, treat once a day for 7 days. For chronic infections, treat once a day for 14 days. You should consult with your veterinarian to see how long you should wait to start your furry baby on the Zymox after stopping the Otibiotic....

how many drops should i put in each of my dog's ear?
I "filled" the ear canals, rubbed it around so it got everywhere within the ear, and wiped away the excess.

I have Zymox ear drops already but it expired 07/2012 can I still use it or should I purchase another.
I would say to give it a try. If is doesn't work, buy a new bottle.

What is the difference between the Hydrocortisone Free and the one with the Hydrocortisone
Hydocortisone burns on a open sore. Use the Cortisone Free for really bad ear infections and the one with cortisone for daily or weekly care to prevent a infection.
