How it Works:
With its ultrasonic technology, the Bark Genie Handheld immediately detects barking within a radius up to 15 feet and emits an ultrasonic sound only dogs can hear to instantly stop their barking behavior. Requires 4 AAA alkaline batteries, which are not included.

Instructions to use the Bark Genie Handheld Bark Control Device
- Install the batteries through the back battery door and install the wrist strap through the bottom hole. You can carry the handheld device with you on walks or anywhere you want to prevent your dog from barking.
- When a bark from a dog is desired to be silenced (maximum effective range is 15 feet), press and hold the activation button.
- Tips on using the Bark Genie Handheld Bark Control Device
- A short audible beep will be emitted to confirm your action and a green LED will illuminate
- An auto-shut off feature will stop the ultrasonic sound if the activation button has been pressed and held for more than 10 seconds. The feature will reset when the activation button is released.

How do I know the Bark Genie Handheld Bark Control Device is working? When in testing mode the green LED should be on to let you know it is transmitting.
Why can't I hear the ultrasonic tone? Ultrasonic sounds are high frequency and inaudible to most humans.
Can my dog become desensitized to the ultrasonic sound? Your dog can become familiar with the ultrasonic sound after extended use of the product. In order to avoid this, try not using the product on your dog for a few days.
Tip:
A low battery is indicated when the LED is red.

Not for every dog
Just like people all dogs are different, this is a great hand held anti-bark control if its right for you dog. I have several dogs but 2 of the dogs barks are so annoying it's like nails on a chalkboard. When I first used it I was unsure of coarse of the effects, but the two dogs I wanted it to work on the most, it did and it works great. My other dogs that just bark every so often, their barks are not annoying, but when it goes off it gets their attention but they still may bark, but my two annoying ones like I said it worked great. So if it will work on your dog you will be very satisfied with this product.

I was so excited to get this product... It was very convenient to put a lanyard on it to keep around my wrist when walking my dog. First try worked great, but perhaps my dog is too smart and repositioned her ears when barking because it wasn't effective on our second, third, etc. walks.
It might work for the smaller dogs, but not for the bigger dogs it would seem.

works very well
This works better than anything else I've tried. It takes a few times of activating the BARK GENIE on occasion but overall it works very well. She will at least not bark as often as before I bought this and will come running back to me instead of keeping on barking. Have been using this for a year or so now.

Waste of money in my case.
This sounded great so we bought one. We have two dogs, both are a lab mix, this thing has had NO affect on them. I might as well be whistling into the wind. They don't even acknowledge it's existence, in fact when I do use it they want to sniff it, "while in use."

Didn't work for my two!
I was so hopeful when this came in the mail.
I have two Chihuahuas. The first one didn't have a barking problem until I introduced the second one. He barks at everything and taught the older one bad habits.
The Bark Genie slightly worked on the older one at least he would turn and look at me. The younger one didn't miss a beat and just kept barking. Reading the other reviews it seems to not work on Chihuahuas.

I can't believe it worked!
This thing is amazing - it WORKS! Our black lab loves to bark at birds in trees - annoying all the neighbors. She goes from tree to tree every time she is outside. The first time we used it she stopped immediately. The second time she barked once then stopped as soon as we used it. The third time she looked at us and went off and did her business. I can't believe something so simple and inexpensive is so effective.

Can't believe it works!
My 11 year old dachshund had become quite bad at barking. I spent most of my time yelling at him to stop. I ordered this with not much hope that it would really work. Well, in less than 24 hours he is 90% better! Only negative is you have to be close for it to work but I can deal with that. Love it!

IT WORKS!
One of my two Griffies seems to be more inclined to bark at the slightest things. This little device worked like a charm to help distract her barking right away! While it provides the distraction, I also reinforced with a "no" or "quiet" command at the time I was using it. At least for me, this product provided an immediate solution to her barking problem at a very small price.

How far does it really reach?
In your answers you mentioned more than once that the sounds reaches 50 feet. However the pictured box says 15 feet. Which is it really?
The Bark Genie Handheld #11576 is 15 ft and the Bark Genie Automatic #11577 is 50 ft. Both items use to be on the same page sorry for any confusion.

Dog Kennel
We have a dog kennel that was moved in within 150 feet from our house. It houses over 300 dogs. Do you any product that will stop the continuous barking of all these poor dogs.
Not info re: product. You should check with the city, a realtor and the SPCA and have this kennel checked out. Have to be sure animals are being taken care of and if it was legal to have it built so close to your property. Good luck.

How long does the high frequency pitch stay on once barking stops?
YOU control the length of time that the device's sound is on. I have never found it necessary to use for more than just a second or two. Its purpose is to serve as a DISTRACTION so you can then reinforce with the correction.

Will repeated use harm my dog's hearing?

As the instructions indicate, the device is not intended to be sounded for a long time. The sound it makes is barely perceptible to me, and I don't operate it for more than a second. It is intended to serve as a DISTRACTION to the barking so you can then correct the action.

What does "non-evasive" mean?
If this is unpleasantly shrill in order to curb the barking, will it damage the dog's hearing with repeated use? Has it been clinically tested?
"Non-evasive" means that they don't proof read their copy very well. :) I have a feeling that they meant to say "non-invasive". http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/noninvasive Which, in a medical context, refers to a procedure that doesn't involve putting anything inside the body. Which doesn't really make a lot of sense, here, but what I think they were trying to say is that the volume and effect of the ultrasonic tone is modest, and doesn't disturb the dog unnecessarily, beyond what's needed to get them to stop barking.

Small space, like a car
That the Bark Genie can work up to 15 feet seems to be stressed. We need it in the car. Does this intensify the level of sound by being enclosed in a car?
Thank you for your question. It is not suggested to use this in a car but we have a handheld Bark Genie that can be used in the car.

Thank you for your question. The Bark Genie that is for outdoors is an automatic machine but the handheld Bark Genie is used with the push of a button.
