Cheristin for Cats

Active Ingredient(s):

Spinetoram (11.2%)

What is this product used for:

Cheristin for Cats contains spinetoram, an insecticide that kills fleas on contact by targeting the fleas' nervous systems, resulting in paralysis and rapid death.

Availability:

Cheristin for Cats is a non-prescription product.

How this product should be used:

Remove one applicator tube from the blister package. Hold applicator tube in an upright position. Press cap down until it clicks (indicating the tube has been punctured). Hold upright and remove cap. Check to be sure there is an opening at the tip of tube. Part the hair on the neck at the base of the head until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the tube directly above the skin and squeeze the tube 2-4 times to expel the contents of the tube directly on the skin. Avoid getting the product in your pet's eyes or mouth. Treatment at the base of the head will minimize the opportunity for the cat to directly lick the product. (There may be a small residual remaining in the tube after a full dose is expelled.) Discard empty applicator tube in the trash.

What are the side effects:

Monitor your cat after application. Side effects may include signs of application site reactions such as application site hair loss, hair change (greasy, clumping or matting) of redness, inflammation and itching. Other side effects such as inactivity, vomiting and inappetence have also been reported. If these or any other side effects occur, consult your veterinarian, your cat's healthcare expert. For technical support, contact Elanco at 1-888-545-5973.

Cheristin For Cats is rated 4.5217 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from I read all the great reviews I read so many really great reviews on this product. I bought it and never stopped seeing fleas on my cats. I just knew that I had found my answer through the customer reviews. I don't know what the problem was, but to spend hundreds of dollars and still have fleas was just something I am not going to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful flea medication I thought I'd take a different flea medication for my cats because the fleas seem to have been getting immune to the revolution so I got this. I also really didn't want to take my cat to the vet just yet just to get flea medication. This got great reviews and it is well deserved of it's rating. I will definitely keep buying this stuff because it works. Five stars! It works so well and 30 minutes it will start killing the fleas!!! I applaud the people who made this stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flea med that kills all fleas My cat very sensitive to fleas, only med that worked on him. All his skin conditions gone, use on all my cats

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and EffectiveQ I tried other flea products, such as Advantage from PetSupermarket and Walmart. None of these worked at all. My veterinarian recommended cheristin. Cheristin worked immediately...got rid of all the fleas, on my cat and in the house. It's a great product with no side effects, at least on my cat here in Ormond Beach, FL. There were NO side effects. My cat hated the Advantage. She acted as though it were burning her and she'd hide for hours after I used it. Not with Cheristin. Now, I wouldn't use anything else.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No fleas! Since moving to Florida a year ago, Cheristin was vet recommended. We have used it since, and it works well for our Sasha. It is very easy to use and side affects seem to be minimal to none. Happy with this product!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked quickly when other brands didn't I was using activyl and advantage II on my many cats and it was showing no effect on the fleas any more here in Florida. It took a couple days to resolve the problem due to the fact that it was quite bad, however the cats had no ill response to the medicine and are pretty much flea free. Hooray!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick! This is the first time I've used a product like this. I've had a terrible flea infestation all summer. My poor indoor kitties (and my daughter and I!) were in bad shape from all the flea bites. After flea bombing and shampooing a gazillion times with little success, I finally broke down and bought Cheristin. It killed all the fleas on the cats within the twelve hours as it said. It's now been two weeks since I put the medicine on my babies...they're still flea free! I recommend it highly!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why Cheristin? Here: I am originally from Illinois, along with my 2 cats. After moving to the Keys, the fleas there are large and difficult to get rid of. The local traveling veterinarian, Edy, recommended Cheristin and told me that is what she uses on her cats and she has found it to be the ONLY thing that works for cats in the Keys. There is ONE DRAWBACK, after applied topically to your kitty, it will dry, and cause the fur to fall out - IT WILL GROW BACK!! - but, if after you apply the cheristin and let it dry, then wash the cat's fur, all is well. Edy was right, this is the only thing that worked for my kitties and I still use it.

Number of applications

For some reason, I can't seem to find the number of applications, and whether it's dosed per poundage of the cat. Can you help me with that?
Asked by: meowzz
I tube at the scruff of the neck as with other flea meds. We have 3 cats 6 pounds, 9 pounds and 11 and they all get the same amount. No side effects except no fleas.

Expiration date

Is their an expiration date that I need to be concerned about with this med? I plan to discontinue during my area's non-active flea season, and then resume next year in the spring. But if their is an expiration date, it would be better to purchase just before spring. Thanks
Asked by: Patti
It is actually better to keep your cats on all year round. Per our Vet. Though I live in an area that does not get snow or harsh weather. I would ask your vet to be sure

My 2 cats groom each other's neck areas so how lethal is this product once they ingest it -- which they will do?

They are not good candidates for the oral flea tablet so now what do we do?? Also, they now have tape? worms from the fleas, so what do you recommend?? Thank you..
Asked by: Bud & Patti
Thank you for your question. It is suggested to separate your cats whent he dosage is given and allow a few hours for the medication to be fully absorbed before they are allowed near one another as the medication cannot be ingested.
