What is Onsior for Cats?
Onsior for Cats is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that relieves pain and reduces inflammation associated with orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. The small, yeast-flavored tablets are favored by cats and are easy to administer. Onsior is available in a 6mg 3-pack blister packet. Onsior requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

How it Works:
Onsior contains the active ingredient robenacoxib, an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) that targets the COX-2 enzyme that causes pain. It spares the COX-1 enzyme to protect your cat's gastrointestinal tract and blood platelet functions. The tablet is quickly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is effective for 24 hours.
Cautions:
For cats only. Do not use with pregnant or lactating cats or those suffering from ulcers. Do not increase the dose, frequency, or length of time you administer Onsior, unless directed by your vet. Keep out of reach of children and other animals. In case of accidental overdose, contact a health professional immediately.

Onsior is used in cats for the control of postoperative pain and inflammation associated with orthopedic surgery. It can also be prescribed for other kinds of pain. The maximum duration of therapy is 3 days.

How Onsior for Cats should be used:
Onsior is a non-narcotic, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and is usually given by mouth 1 time daily with or without food. This medication should not be used for more than 3 days.
What are the side effects:
Contact your veterinarian if your pet has abdominal pain, tenderness, or discomfort, changes in appetite, bloody, black or tarry stools, blood in vomit, unexplained weight gain, water retention, fatigue or lethargy, skin rash, itching, yellowing of eyes, or unusual bruising or bleeding as these symptoms could indicate serious side effects. If any of the following serious side effects occur, stop giving Onsior and seek emergency veterinary medical attention: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips, tongue or face, or hives). Other less serious side effects may occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that your cat experiences..
What special precautions are there:
For use to treat pain in cats only and not for more than 3 days duration. Exceeding the dose or duration of therapy may result in very serious life-threatening adverse reactions. Onsior should not be given with other NSAID medication or corticosteroid medication. If any signs of adverse reaction or intolerance occurs stop medication and contact veterinarian immediately.
How should I store Onsior for Cats:
Store at controlled room temperature, between 59° and 77° F (15° -25° C).
Directions:
- The recommended dose is 1 mg/kg body weight.
- Administer once a day at the same time of day for up to 3 days.
- For oral use only. Do not divide or administer with other pain relievers. (Please Note: Onsior package has 6 blisters, but only 3 have the Onsior tablet inside.)

My cats thought it was a treat!
After my girls got fixed, the Vet sent us home with a few of these.
I just held the pill in the palm of my hand, and they licked it up (even my little picky britches!). I didn't have to shove it down their throat or trick them into taking it!!! I really appreciated this.
As far as pain management goes, they seem to be acting like themselves, and not hunkered over in pain or anything like that.
I would recommend this for sure!

Excellent pain medication
My cat has Vaccination fibrosarcoma which is a tumor that is growing aggressively due to vaccinations. She does not have much time left due to the size of this tumor (larger than a soft ball) but this medication allows her to walk and eat free of most pain.

Works well for pain
My cat had a soft tissue injury on her front paw. This medication helped reduce the inflammation and helped with her pain. The injury is mostly resolved now but occasionally she has pain in that foot, so I keep this on hand. She doesn't mind the taste. I give it to her with a few pieces of dry food and she just licks it out of her food bowl. I'm so glad there is finally something for cats that have pain.

Is this ok to give to a 9 wk old kitten?
my kitten was bitten by an older cat and now has an abscess. Has been incised by a vet, but it has gotten very large again. Thanksgiving weekend, but I know he is hurting. I may be able to get this at the pet store.
Onsior is a prescription medication so your vet will need to prescibe it. Onsior is also only approved for cats 6 months of age and older.

What are normal (non-concerning) side effects of Onsior?
I can find lots of information about adverse/dangerous side effects of Onsior in cats but nothing about what can be commonly expected - i.e. sleepiness or nervousness, etc.
My cat did not have any noticeable side effects on this medication.

can onsior be given for more than 3 days? If so, can it be used as a daily medication?
It's approved for long term use in Britain. When my cat had a really bad soft tissue injury my vet had me give it to her for several weeks to reduce the inflammation and pain. It worked really well. We tested her blood regularly to make sure she wasn't having any problems from being on it for so long. She was fine. No problems at all. I still give it to her occasionally if she limps or if I suspect she is in pain. I would recommend a blood test after a week just to make sure your cat is ok.

Does this work on teeth / gum inflections?
Does this work on teeth / gum inflections? Also- what if the cat only weighs 8 lbs?
