Seems to help my kidney failure cat
When my cat had her initial episode and had to be hospitalized, her BUN was at 180 and her creatinine was at 12.9. She had lost her vision and I was told she would not make it through the day. While she was hospitalized, the doctors gave her this medication. Thankfully she lived and also regained her vision. I have been giving this medication twice a day for over a year and also administering subcutaneous fluids five days a week. Keep in mind my cat was only about 6 years old when this happened. Fast forward to almost two years later. I had her blood work checked recently and her BUN is down to 50 and her creatinine is down to the normal range. Her BUN is still high but clinically, she is doing great. She has a huge appetite and runs and plays like a kitten most days. I am thankful for this medication, although expensive, because it seems to really help my Gigi to feel better.

kidney cats - this helps. probiotics are so important for us all and this one has strains for kidney health. these few small "common sense" health things we can do for our kidney cats seem to really help them survive and thrive!

MY TUNIA WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HYPERTHYROID A FEW MONTHS AGO AND PUT ON TAPIZOLE - SHE HAD LOST WEIGHT RAPIDLY AND THE PILLS SEEMED TO MAKE HER WORSE - THROWING UP, RAPID HEARTBEAT, HIDING - AND NOT ACTING HERSELF. SHE ALSO WAS DRINKING AND PEEING A LOT WITH THE STRONG AMMONIA ODOR. I SPOTTED THIS PRODUCT AND ORDERED IT RIGHT AWAY AFTER A HOMEOPATHIC VET RECOMMENDED IT. I HAVE NOTICED A CHANGE IN HER IN THE LAST FEW DAYS. SHE IS MORE COMFORTABLE ACTING HERSELF NOW AND THE AMMONIA SMELL HAS ALSO STOPPED. I HAVE HER SCHEDULED FOR THE RADIOACTIVE IODINE TREATMENT SOON - IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE - BUT I AM FEELING MORE CONFIDENT THAT SHE WILL PULL THROUGH THIS WITH THIS PRODUCT HELPING

Saved my dog
My dog was diagnosed with stage 4 Kidney failure. After being in the vets for three days they told me to bring my dog home and keep her comfortable because she will pass within a few days to a few weeks. After crying my eyes out with the thought of losing my baby, Princess, I took to the web. My baby was throwing up everything, and she lost weight rapidly. I put her on Azodyl and Epakitin Powder. I changed her diet to cream of chicken soup, gluten free pasta and potato rolls. Within a little over two weeks she made a complete turn around. She gained back some weight, she runs and plays like before and her breath no longer smells like ammonia. She looks great! She should have passed way over three months ago. I am so glad I did the research and did not listen to the vet. They don't know everything. I wholeheartedly recommend these two products.

It works!
After $1,300 in tests, our vet told us that our 16 1/2 year old Yorkshire Terrier Jet had kidney failure and would only last a couple of weeks. I went to work and my boss told me about how Azodyl was keeping his dog, which also had kidney failure, alive. Another person at work also said the same thing about how it was helping her dog. I called the vet and asked him about it and he said he had heard about it but didn't beleived that it actually worked. I ordered it anyway. Within two weeks, Jet was back to his normal self. We have to open up the capsule, as he will not swallow it, mix it with a little cold filtered water, and syringe it into in mouth twice a day. Two year later he is still alive! Our vet calls him the "wonder dog" but still isn't sure it works. The next dog will get a new vet!

Saving my cat's life for over 4 years
Back in '09, my 14-year old cat was diagnosed with early stages of renal failure. She's been taking Azodyl ever since. It will not cure kidney disease but it will slow the progression significantly. We're approaching 5 years since onset and I've recently had to add daily subcutaneous fluids to her regimen. The fluids & Azodyl has allowed her to maintain & continue a high quality of life. Well worth the money.

so far so good.
i have a 16 year old cat. he has been on hard food for at least 10 of those years...the last 6 has been on high quality canned. recently in a routine vet visit, lab work was drawn for a dental. it was discovered that his kidney numbers were on the high side. i spent hours researching this supplement and checked with the vet, who honestly had no experience with it. being a supplement, we both agreed that there was nothing to loose in trying it. my kitty has been on it for 5 days so far. my vet gave me a pill pencil to help administer it to him....not one single problem with getting him to take it with the pen. they are capsules, but pretty small ones. now we are not going to be doing more lab work for a few months, but the most immediate change i have noticed so far, is the smell of his urine. it no longer has that ammonia smell......the smell is not a concentrated odor, its hard to describe, but it remarkably different, and more pleasant. his energy level and desire to eat is amazing for him! i have a much more interactive cat again! i will post an update when we redo the blood work in a few months, but already the changes on the outside are in a much positive direction !!

Keeping my baby alive 3 years
I began using this product over 3 yrs ago under the advice of my vet. Sooty was 14 1/2 then and is now approaching 18. Also very hyperthyroid and using methimazole 2x a day. Sooty is tiny-6 1/2 lbs-but very skittish. She stopped falling for the pill in a treat trick early on. Now I pry her mouth open, put the pill in as far as I can, shut her mouth and hold it closed so she can't work it out, and massage her throat. She probably hates me but at least I know I'm keeping her alive. Once in a while my husband has to give her a pill, or my daughters when we're both away, and I just tell them to put in on her food or break it open....it doesn't seem to have much on an effect even if it isn't the way they tell you to give it. I look forward to spending many more happy years with the old girl...she's still kittenish although she's started napping more than usual the last year. She just eats regular Friskies wet food and drinks plenty of water but no subcu. Azodyl has worked for me and is much cheaper even with overnight shipping at pet meds than through the vet...I get 3 mos at a time.

What kind of food?
For those finding success with this supplement, are you feeding your pet the prescription kidney food along with it or regular food? My cats won't eat the prescription kidney food so I'm hoping I can use this with regular food so they will eat.

Azodyl expired
Unfortunately, my Azodyl expired this month and I still have the whole bottle. Is it safe to give to the cat with chronic kidney disease or I should purchase a fresh one. Please advise mi in that matter.

My bottle of Azodyl from the vet has "small capsules" written on the bottle. Are these capsules the same size?
Yes it its the same size. They are not very big at all. It is cheaper to get it on the web then to get it through the vet

Can I open the cap to slip in another small pill?
Will it still be effective! Much easier to only pill my cat once a day.

How much psyllium per cap is there ?
Hi, I feed my cat with a little few vegetables (and meat, rice, oils, etc) for the fibers, according to the nutritionnist veterinarian.

Should the Azodyl capsule be digested?
Our 7.5 lb. Yorkshire Terrier developed diabetes almost 2 years ago. With her increased BUN levels, the vet recommended Azodyl once a day. We saw great results with decreased BUN levels in about 4-6 weeks. I think because she was doing so well, he decided that the once a day dosage was sufficient. Last week her blood work indicated her BUN levels had gone over 130. In light of the new BUN levels (although her Creatine levels were in the normal range), we decided to follow the recommended dosage on the bottle, and administer twice a day to see if we could bring her BUN level down.
Last night when she had a bowel movement, I noticed that the Azodyl capsule had passed through and was in its original state. The capsule had never dissolved. Tonight when she had a bowel movement, you could see the capsule had split apart but never dissolved, and the contents of the capsule appeared to be a small wad. We are quite alarmed, as we had never noticed the Azodyl capsule in her bowel movements before. Is the Azodyl supposed to pass through whole like this? Should I be able to see parts of the capsule and a wad of the bacterial contents? We are very concerned as we want to be sure that the Azodyl is benefiting her.
Our Yorkshire Terrier, which has kidney failure, would not swallow the capsule. We tried sprinkling it on his food, but he had become so finicky he would not eat his food that we put it on. Now we open it up and mix it with a little cold filtered water and then syringe into his mouth. Even though we have given it to him twice a day for over two years he still fights us. However, we win and he is still alive!
