How it Works:
As a guillotine-style nail trimmer, the Resco Pet Nail Trimmer has a stationary ring through which the nail is placed, and a cutting blade that moves up to slice off the nail when the handles of the trimmer are squeezed.
Cautions:
Always be careful not to cut too close to the 'quick', which contains nerves and blood vessels. It is painful and will bleed easily. On light-colored claws, the quick is the pink section and is easier to see. You cannot see the quick on dark-colored claws, making them difficult to trim without cutting into the quick. Cut dark colored claws in several small cuts to reduce the chance of cutting into the quick.
Directions:
- Anyone can use the Resco Pet Nail Trimmer because the heavy-duty construction requires less pressure and has a more positive cutting action.
- Use in bright light and cut each nail a little at a time to prevent cutting the quick. The quick is the fleshy section inside of the nail that contains nerves and blood vessels so that cutting causes bleeding.
- As nails grow, so does the quick. If your pet's nails are extremely long, trim just a little off and wait a week before trimming the nails again. The quick will regress a small amount each time the nail is shortened. Over several weeks, the nail can be shortened to the desired length without cutting the quick.
Tip:
If your pet's nails make a clicking sound when they walk, they are probably too long. Hold your pet's foot and press the toe gently so that the nail extends fully. If the nail curves beyond the bottom of the toe pad, it's too long.

Easy!
My dog's nails grow so fast.. I have to cut them every 3 weeks... These nails clippers are great... very easy to use and they save me a ton of money in having to bring him in to the groomer....

Pet Nail Trimmer
I had these nail clippers for my min pin but i do not have here any more so I was thinking I did not need them any more so I was going to give them away then but I thought about using the clippers on my cats before I gave the clippers away. I was so amazed on how easy it was to cut the cats nails and fast it clipped the nails and the cats was so easy to do the cats they just laid there for me to do there nails. I was using reg baby nail clippers and it was so hard for me to handle my cats to do there nails with those clippers they would jerk their paws back and fight me so much but using the pet nail tirmmer they did not pull their paws back or fight me on doing their nails this was heaven sent wish I would have thought about using the pet nail trimmer a lot sooner i would recomend the pet nail clipper to any one who has cats it works great

It was hard to introduce this to my pet as the nails kept jumping off the grinder. I only did 2 nails to start. I think it will get easier the more we do it.

best nail trimmer I have used. I have small hands and the grips make it much easier to hold and squeeze. I have a Wiemaraner who does not enjoy having his nails trimmed - and this makes the task MUCH easier. Thanks.

how to stop bleeding after nail trimming
I used to have a powder that my vet gave me to stop bleeding if I had a few drops of blood after nail trimming. I can see the quick through my dog's nails except for a few darker nails so it was only a few drops (happened just 2-3 times over 8 years).
Does anyone know what that powder or creme is?
I know live in Switzerland and no-one has any idea what I'm talking about...
I use styptic powder. I'm sure you can get it at any pharmacy

how do you trim nails on a skittish dog
she pulls her paws away, fights us, tries to run off, and yelps when I do get one cut. she weighs 65lbs. normally she is sweet and obedient . I have had her since 6wks of age and she is now 10
If she is yelping when you cut you will want your vet or groomer to look at your pets nails to check the sensitive area (and vain) to determine where it would be best to trim.

How long till the nails stop hurting when cut too short
I think the vet cut my chihuahuas' nails too short cause we can see inside them. Will these heal ok? He is in pain we think and very aggressive. Is there a pain med ican use for him in the mean time or just ride it out.
Thank you for your question Freeway. What you are seeing is the "quick" of the nail. It is the blood vein and as long as its not bleeding, you are safe. You may have just gotten too close to the quick and pinched it. The pain will subside but if you see any bleeding you can use a product called Quick Stop. It helps with sealing the wound and providing pain relief. You can obtain this product from your local pet store.

Do you carry cat claw covers
They are a soft plastic material that adhere with pet safe glue for several months. THese are becoming very popular as declawing is going out of favor
Unfortunately, we do not carry soft claws and yes they are very popular. This type of clipper is not recommended as is it could crush the nail. I would recommend the Resco Pro-Series Scissor Trimmers #11082, this will provide a cleaner cut since cat nails are relatively easy to trim.

Does this work on large dogs with thick nails ?

You advertise that the nail trimmers have replaceable blades....do you sell them. I can't find them?
Resco does make a 6-blade nail trimmer replacement kit. However, I'm very sorry, we do not sell the replacement blades at this time.

clipping dew claws
Have you heard of using a hemostst for clipping dew claws from puppies?
Clipping dew claws from puppies is not as easy as it looks and is a procedure that should ABSOLUTELY be left for your Veterinarian to do. There are a lot of complications that could come into play... why take the risk, have the pro's do it. When in doubt, remember...they went to medical school...we didnt. Always ask the Vet.
