won't hold the pill
I purchased this to use with Denamarin. The pill is way too large for the pet piller to hold. The pill just fell off the end. When I tried to push it in more, the rubber part tore. It was a waste of money and never was able to be used.

Great for cats
I don't know what was going on with the people who couldn't get this to work because I have had a couple over the years and they have always worked perfectly. I have two older cats with health issues, so I have to give them a lot of pills each day. This has been a lifesaver.
It's not big enough to work with larger pills, but it is perfect for cats and the smaller pills they take.
If you have a cat and need to give them any pills, get this piller! It will make your life, and your cat's life, much much easier!

Engineering breakthru!
My dog is a vy loving puppy who takes 13-17 pills a day (I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's a delicate cocktail - about half the pills are administered to reduce side effects from other meds...and when he's taking all his meds he's the king of the dog park and the neighborhood - even the vets believe he's got another four or five yrs of happiness.....)
But we are in our third year of this routine.... He grew bored of pill pockets after year one. Crushing pills - yeah, he was on to that trick after about a month. The pill syringe is really the only way that I can get him to take his pills w/o it becoming an hour long process. The first couple of weeks he was a pill about it. But after every successul swallow I gave him a treat. Now he just sits there, lets me pop it in and swallows...we're about a year and a half into it and he'll take it from anyone. I think he's cursing me privately b/c it's a weird routine, but it's effective and not too invasive, so he deals....if you're at your wits end, get your vet or vet tech to teach you how this works - it's worth the learning curve....

Does Not Work!
I cannot get this thing to work properly! The pills are constantly getting stuck in it and I have to do it several times to get it to eject the pill. (I will have to try and modify it by cutting the tip down as suggested in another review) I have an older piller that is all hard plastic (no rubber tip) and it has always worked great.

Very good after modification
I purchased 2 and neither one would work, they would not eject the pill. I took a single edge razor blade and made the slit deeper and cut the end off so that the center ejector rod comes out about 1/4 of an inch past the blue rubber end.They work perfect now, just carefully trim down until it works. When closed the white rod should stick out past the blue rubber.

Not Good For Large Pills
I do not understand why most medications for dogs come only very large tablets. My dog and many other dogs are small to minature. Large medications are dificult to give. Makes medication a pain for the dog and the giver.

Couldn't be without it
I LOVE this thing! My cat has to take pills every night and one is so bitter he won't eat it crushed up. This pill popper makes giving him a pill so much easier than using my fingers, and I don't have to worry about keeping my fingers!

Is this the H-Bar-S pet piller with the green tip as pictured?
I just ordered some new pillers and they are NOT the H-Bar-S pet piller - they have a navy tip and not the green tip - and they are definitely not nearly as good as the H-Bar-S pillers. The plunger sticks, badly, and it is difficult to expel the pill into my cat's mouth. Several of your reviews indicate this is not in fact the H-Bar-S piller. I will order these if they are H-Bar-S pet pillers with the green tip.

Is this a one time use or can it be used multiple times? Alf needs 1/2 tablet of tramadol b.i.d. and it is very difficult to get it down his troat. Hiding the tablet in anything only means that he will no longer take what you hid the pill in.
Multiple times. And after you're finished with it - I'm sure it will be in the landfill long after our species is gone...but it's worth it...

how do you make a finicky dog who bites to open his mouth for his daily medication?
Try putting the meds in cream cheese or peanut butter. Give a "blank" one first, (no meds in it) to get them eating it.

What is the best methodto get a cat's mouth open in order to give it a pill?
Does not like wet food.
kneel on the floor with the cat between your legs so it can not back away. Grasp the mouth just at the jaw hinge and press firmly. Not enough to hurt the cat. It will lift its head and open its mouth. Be ready to follow the head up so as to not loose your grip. Pop in the pill as far as you can.
