What is Zymox Otic Enzymatic Solution with Hydrocortisone?
Zymox Otic treats the ear externally for acute and chronic inflammation caused by bacterial, fungal, and yeast infections. Some factors that may contribute to possible ear infections include: excessive hair, a suppressed immune system, and excessive skin folds in the ear. The addition of hydrocortisone provides added relief from inflammation as well as relief from itching.

How it Works:
Zymox Otic has what the manufacturer calls a Three-Point Enzyme System. Each enzyme - lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, and lactoferrin - has its own unique properties that, when combined, becomes a powerful antimicrobial formula. The antibacterial property of the lactoperoxidase is based upon inhibiting vital bacterial metabolic enzymes. Lysozyme kills bacteria by disrupting the formation of a glycosidic bond between the two components of peptidoglycan, a constituent of the bacterial cell wall. Lastly, lactoferrin - an iron-binding protein - is bacteriostatic against a wide range of microorganisms, which means it inhibits the growth of the bacteria. The anti-inflammatory action of hydrocortisone reduces itching and inflammation.
Cautions:
Do not use this product when using any other topical ear medications or cleaners, since the enzyme activity of Zymox Otic with Hydrocortisone may not work.

How this product should be used:

How many day's will the 1.25 oz bottle last if U use it on 1 dog in both ear's every day?
The 1.25 oz bottle is recommended for acute infections which is more like a 7 day treatment. The 4 oz bottle is enough for a 14 day treatment.

St. Bernard shaking head a lot
My st. bernard has never had ear issues but she has been shaking her head ALOT and her ears look pretty red on the inside..I don't see any discharge but am looking for suggestions on if this is probably an ear infection and what would be the best option to start off.
Both ear infections and ear mites can cause a pet to shake his/her head and redness as well. You may want to consult with your veterinarian to rule out and treat the appropriate issue. The Zymox is a great over the counter resolution to treat an ear infection.

I am on day 4 of using the Zymox Otic and now my dog seems to be scratching at his ear and they look a little red is this normal?
when ever I have to treat my dog, after about 2-3 days his ears will start the healing process and go from smelling really funky to not as bad smelling but show some signs of healing and then as he heals he seems to get itchy and scratches as well but after about 6-7 days he does not do this and his ears look a normal pinkish color again and his itching is also reduced to not as often. So I believe it is just a coarse in the healing process.

Zymox after Otomax
I'm afraid that Otomax has contributed to my cat's nausea & lack of appetite and would like to try zymox with hydrocortisone.
How would I go about this? The sticky Otomax is probably still in her ear.
Also, are there any medications or health issues that are not compatible with this product?

One of the ear drops I used caused my dog to temporarily deaf. I was very upset. Her hearing returned after a few months, also addressed her allergies w Claritin - she can hear now and barks. Love the Zymox Otic - 1 time a day makes it easier and no ear cleaning.
