Great results
Since Rosie developed a partial intestinal blockage and constipation last year, we tried a number of solutions that helped, but did not meet all the criteria, until we tried Vetasyl.
1. Effective: Rosie's bowel movement are regular and firm enough to scoop but soft enough to easily pass through her system.
2. Easy to administer: just pull the capsule open, sprinkle on canned food, mix and serve. I add a little water to increase her fluid intake.
3. No sugar or petroleum chemicals added: In spite of our efforts to control it, Rosie is overweight, which puts her at risk for diabetes, She gained weight with another product that had added sugar. Also, I was concerned that it might prevent her from absorbing some of the nutrients in her food.
Rosie is 17 years old now, and we are happy to find a solution that works and does not compromise her health.

THE answer for constipation
Finally I found the solution to my cat's constipation problem. In the last 4 or 5 years my aging tabby has had serious problems with constipation. She gets impacted all the way up to her diaphragm and it can even block her urethra, making it impossible for her to urinate. I've been using Enulose (Lactulose) for the last few years, augmented by monthly costly trips to the vet for enemas and overnight stays. The vet added Cisapride to her medication schedule, but her stools were so hard, the Cisapride just caused more cramping. In desperation I started researching medications and treatments, and stumbled upon Vetasyl. What did I have to lose? It is the answer. Her stools are now soft enough for her to expel and she is a happy little baby! I'm wondering why my vet didn't know about this...
She is a very small kitty, barely 5 pounds, so I have to give her half dosages. I would prefer to buy the powder without the capsule, since I have to take them apart anyway. But it is a small sacrifice to see her little body working properly with no pain!

Excellent for my cat
I have a three year old neutered male kitty, 15 pounds, was feral when I got him at 4 weeks old, who had been plagued with smelly soft stools almost on a daily basis since he became an adult and no amount of antibiotics etc. did anything for him. His colitis type diagnosis was not an infection but rather inflammation which flares up.
My cat specialist suggested we use WD low-fat chicken flavored prescription cat food ( dry kibble ) and one Vetasyl cap daily.
We open the Vetasyl cap, stir with a few tablespoons of water until mixed well, then pour in his kibble, more water, then stir.
I mix up a batch ( 3/4 cups or so ) in the a.m. and I give him small several meals of this concoction daily, keeping the rest refrigerated in Tupperware.
This VETASYL works like a charm ! He stools were firmer, no smell and he is doing so much better. We have had him on this for a year, and no more problems with his bowels.
Initially we tried it with the WET WD cat food, but even though it was low fat, the wet stuff just doesn't agree with him.
Important Note: Make sure you get a cat fountain and keep it clean, with fresh water, to encourage your cat to drink a lot of water, which they need when they are on Vetasyl Caps.

Yeah
Gorky was a 16-18 lb long haired cat, who lived to be 20 yrs old..For the last 8-10 yrs of his life he had an issue with constipation. This was the first thing my vet wanted to try. The trick was finding the dosage that worked for him - 1 1/2 pills a day. Having multiple cats I found mixing it with water and squirting it in his mouth was the easiest way to know he got what he needed.. It did wonders for him and is now something I always have in the house.

This product was not right for my cats
I have two 13-year-old cats, Max and Gizmo. They ate the dried foods with this product, but they got worse.... they throw up too much liquids all over the carpets. In three days, I have decided to stop in using this product and will ask for a full refund soon.

I'm
giving my cat vetasyl she does like it at all can I put it in a syringe and give it to her?
What I do with the medicine. I put it in a teaspoon of water .The water makes it like a paste then I give it to her. I have to put it in her mouth with my finger. Hope this will help

Would it be harmful if I give my cat 2-pills a day?
My cat has developed chronic constipation and I have tried Lactalose from the Vet, which failed miserably. Then I tried Lax-eze that worked for a while, but after a month or so, she got bound up again. I thought it was a miracle when I found Vetasyl, using it once a day and Lax-eze for feedings during the day. After spending loads of money at the Vets, finally a cure! Unfortunately, it was short lived, because after 6-months, she is back to being constipated. I encourage her to drink (broth/water), but I am back to square one again. I am hesitant to give her 2-pills (am/pm), but I really need your help / suggestions!
You might increase her water intake even more without the broth, which may add salt and increased calories. . We add water along with the Vetasyl on her canned food in the morning. We only give her Vetasyl once a day, but we also add water to her canned food for her evening meal. If you only have one water dish, you might add others at convenient spots for her. Some people I know have good results with a fountain device for pets that prefer it to still water In bowls.

Cat with Diabetes
Is there any contraindication of using this medication for a cat with Diabetes. My cat is 11 yrs old and in on insulin twice per day. Even though she has bowel movements daily, they are hard and difficult for her to pass. Are there carbohydrates in this medication enough to affect her blood sugar?
It should be okay to use, but please consult your veterinarian to make sure it is safe for your cat and
your cats diabetes.

My cat has loose stools but eat and drinks regularly. Will this help make her stools more solid?
Her behavior is normal. Yesterday I started to ween her on a new indoor cat formula but this has been going on for the past 2-3 days.
definitely this Vetasyl works well. Check with your vet and see if your cat might also need a dry low fat kibble type of diet like lowfat WD which is what I give to my cat.
The Vetasyl works but we also have to have a diet of 7% or lower fat content, preferably dry, mixed with water. Just a suggestion.
But seriously check with your vet first before using any of this.

Should I be worried that I didn't open the capsule?
My vet didn't mention in his instructions that I was to open the capsules and sprinkle them on the food -- so I've been doing it for 4 days now (twice a day due to her awful constipation), is this a problem?
Yes, you need to open the capsule, sprinkle on the food. And if the pet won't eat it that way, open capsule in a dish, pour a little water, mix well and then mix into the food.

Will vetasyl help my dogs craving for grass?
My 90lb labradoodle is looking to eat grass it helps his stomach to digest. I think he needs somethig in his diet maybe this would help.
You might be better off using a probiotic such as NaturVet Enzymes and Probiotics. This should help to settle the pet's stomach better than Vetasyl. Vetasyl is usually used to treat constipation. As long as your pet is doing it's thing, the probiotic is, in my opinion, the better choice.

will vetasyl help firm my dogs bowl movement to try to help with her sacs ? thats why vet told me to give her that.
I cannot speak for your veterinarian, but I am confidant the reason for using Vetasyl is to prevent irritating the sacs.
