What is Neo Poly Dex Ophthalmic?
Neo Poly Dex Ophthalmic is a used in the eye to treat bacterial infections and swelling or inflammation as a result of the infection. Neo Poly Dex Ophthalmic is available as eye drops or eye ointment. Neo Poly Dex Ophthalmic requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

How it Works:
Neomycin and Polymyxin B are antibiotics which kill bacteria and dexamethasone is a corticosteroid which is used to treat inflammation.
Cautions:
Before using Neo Poly Dex Ophthalmic, tell your veterinarian if your pet is using other eye drops or eye medications. If your pet has swelling of the face, itching, or appears to have difficulty breathing, contact your veterinarian immediately. Do not touch the dropper or tube opening to any surface including eyes or hands.

What is Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic:
Neo Poly Dex is a combination of neomycin and Polymyxin B, which are antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections, and dexamethasone, a steroid, used to treat swelling associated with bacterial infections of the eye. Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic is used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, but may be also used for purposes other than those listed in this guide.
What should I discuss with my veterinarian before using Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic:
Tell your veterinarian if your pet is allergic to this medication or to any of the individual ingredients. Do not use this medication if the pet has a viral or fungal infection in the eye. It is used to treat bacterial infections only. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or lactating.
What is the most important information I should know about Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic:
Contact your veterinarian if the symptoms begin to get worse or if there is no improvement in the pet's condition after a few days. Do not touch the dropper or tube opening to any surface, including the eyes or hands. The dropper or tube opening is sterile and if it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye. Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic is not FDA approved for use in veterinary medicine; however, it is a commonly accepted practice for veterinarians to use this medication in dogs, cats, and horses. Neo Poly Dex is a prescription medication available as sterile drops in a 5 ml bottle and sterile ointment in a 3.5 Gm tube. The drops are usually applied to the eye every 2 to 4 hours. Shake well before applying the drops. The ointment is usually applied to the eye every 8 to 12 hours.
What should I avoid while using Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic:
Do not touch the dropper or tube opening to any surface, including the eyes or hands. The dropper or tube opening is sterile and if it becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in the eye. Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic may cause blurred vision. Do not use other eye medications in your pet unless approved by your veterinarian.
What are the possible side effects of Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic:
Serious side effects are not expected when using this medication. However, some burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, blurred vision, eyelid itching, eyelid swelling, or sensitivity to light may occur. Continue to use the medication and talk to your veterinarian about any side effects that seem unusual or bothersome to your pet.
What other drugs will affect Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic:
Avoid other eye medications unless approved by your veterinarian. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is also taking an oral steroid medication such as prednisone. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Neo Poly Dex ophthalmic. Talk to your veterinarian and pharmacist before giving any prescription or over the counter medications to your pet.

Really works to heal
My little Havanese, Dottie, got swiped in the eye by my little rescue dog who likes to play with her. Dottie suffered a slight laceration to her 2nd eyelid so that it was red and inflamed. About 2 days of treatment with Neo Poly Dex (1 drop every 8 hrs) completely cured her. I really recommend for reducing inflammation of the eye, and I think your vet will agree.

Our sweet rescue Shorty Bear is a chi chi, he came to us with a Proptosis which is a medical condition which causes a dog's eye to move forward. ... is frequently associated with blunt head trauma. Due to this he had surgery to deflate the pressure due to the trauma he lost his sight, but he now has to have a lubricated med because he's eye gets all gunky.. He's veterinary ophthalmologists recommended Neo Poly Ophth Sus... we swear by it.. Thank you so all the great meds you guys carry, Shorty Bear's Vet doesn't carry this ointment..

Worked Quickly!
I would recommend the drops every time. You can make sure the right amount of meds is dispensed and directly into the eye where needed. The problem was cleared up in just a few days.

Dolly responds well to NPDO medication
Dolly does well with Neo Poly Dex Ophthalmic eye medication. Our Veterinary prescribed this for her. I give her a massage with a hand held battery operated massager. After that, I just pick her up and cradle her like a baby and instill a drop in each eye. She is wonderful about everything. Perhaps it soothes her eye as well as medicates. She is an adult platinum tip Tonkinese cat.

Great for eye allergies!
I purchased this product because my Sheltie had it prescribed previously and it worked for his seasonal eye allergies. The drops are easy to apply and it gets rid of the redness and irritation within days on onset. I'll keep using it and its wonderful to be able topurchase it thru 1-800-PETMEDS!!

Neo Poly Dex Ophthalmic
The mfgs pamplet says NOT to touch the dropper on the dogs eyes (lids or eye ball) or your fingers. It may cause additional problems. Check out Falcon website for additional information.
I suggest you shake the bottle with the lid on. :)

can neopolydex cause diarrhea in dogs?
i used these drops friday morning and friday night in my dog's eye as directed by my vet. at 3 am saturday, she woke me up as she needed to go out..she had terrible diarrhea. could this be caused by the two doses of the medication?
I've used these drops on my little Havanese, same dosage, no problems. I don't see how these drops, if put in the eye (one or two drops and wipe up the excess) could cause diarrhea.

I have adopted a wonderful cat from my local shelter. She has an eye missing and at times she has inflammation and black discharge from her eye socket. My vet gave me neomycin and polymyxin b sulfates and dexamethasone ophthalmic ointment. But now they insist on an office apt to re-prescribe this medication. Her eye will always be gone...can I get this medication from you?

will this work on barn kittens with sore eyes?
This drug is used to treat infections of the eye, it will only help if the kittens have eye infections. You will have to consult with the veterinarian to determine if this medication is appropriate for the kittens.

does this medication expire?
we have a bottle from the vet and it isn't effective, wondering if I need something else or it actually isn't working because its expired.
Please refer to the expiration date on the prescription label. The medication does expire once that date has passed. See your veterinarian for a new prescription if the medicine has expired or there is no improvement with your pet.

can neopolydex cause breathing and congestion in nose in a cat
This medication is for use in the eye only and as such should not have any systemic side effects such as congestion. Also, these side effects are not known to be causes by the drugs contained in this product even if taken orally.
