Pets experiencing joint pain may show symptoms of lameness, reluctance to play, walk, and climb up and down stairs. A common form of treatment for joint pain involves prescription pet medications like Rimadyl, Deramaxx, or Tramadol, which helps relieve joint pain and stiffness associated with arthritis. These types of medications are also known as NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories). Although these medications quickly relieve pain, there is also the possibility of liver or kidney damage with prolonged use. It is for this reason our pharmacy specialists recommend giving joint supplements (see step 3 below).
Over time, jumping on and off furniture can strain the joints, which could lead to joint stiffness or swelling. Using pet supplies such as pet stairs and pet ramps allows your pet to climb on and off furniture with ease and at a steady incline. Pet ramps are also great to have if your pet enjoys riding in the car with you.
Giving your pet a daily joint supplement like our Joint Enhancer for Cats or one of our Super Joint Enhancer products (available as chewable tablets for dogs only, and as soft chews and a liquid pump for cats and dogs) may help relieve stress and strain on your pet's joints, allowing for easier mobility. Research also suggests glucosamine for dogs and cats may help to decrease your pet's dependency on NSAID pain medications, which in turn may also decrease the risk of liver damage caused by strong pet meds.
"We have a black Lab, Belle, that has hip issues. But that doesn't slow her down. She is a very active Lab. After exercise we noticed she would have an obvious limp. We tried other products that didn't work very well. Then we found the Super Joint Enhancer Soft Chews. Wow what a difference. No more limping after exercise! We give her one in the morning and one at night and she thinks of them as a treat. Great product!" - Mike
Max's Tip: Make sure your pet stays within a healthy weight range and exercises daily. These factors can help to significantly reduce your pet's risk of experiencing arthritis pain.
