Pet Supplies: Choosing Bowls for Your Dog or Cat

Food and water bowls are a necessity in order to keep your pet adequately hydrated and fed. Having water available for your pet to drink is important to its health. But which is the correct food and water bowl size for your pet? That depends on how large the pet is. Bowls come in different sizes for different breeds. Small breeds require small bowls, and large breeds require large bowls because they require larger amounts of food and water.

Read below for more information on how to help you select the right food and water bowl for your dog or cat:

Use separate bowls for food & water.

  • The water bowl should be large enough for the dog to have a one day's supply of water. Water should be changed twice a day to ensure it is fresh. A pet that is not properly hydrated may develop urinary tract problems. As a rule, a dog typically drinks approximately one ounce of water per pound per day.
  • The best types of dog bowls are those made of stainless steel with a rubber bottom to prevent slipping, and tapered sides to prevent tipping. Stainless steel bowls are also durable, easy to clean, dishwasher safe, and can't be broken.

Kill bacteria in your pet's bowl.

  • Bacteria inside your pet's water bowl can help contribute to oral diseases.
  • Adding Be Fresh Dental Solution to your pet's water bowl can stop bacteria from growing.

Max's Tip: To maintain your pet's health, give your pet food that contains natural ingredients and essential nutrients. Need help selecting a healthy pet food for your pet? Try our Pet Food Comparison Chart which includes ratings from our pet food experts.
