7 Ways to Prevent
Costly Vet Bills

Dr. Dym's Ask a Vet Blog

Take Care of Your Pet's Teeth

Brush your pet's teeth.

Although brushing your pet's teeth may be a difficult task, doing so can help prevent tartar and plaque buildup, which over time could lead to periodontal disease. For many pets, especially small dog breeds, periodontal disease is a common problem. However, brushing your pet's teeth with the C.E.T. Oral Hygiene Kit for Dogs and Cats can help prevent dental diseases and reduce the likelihood of costly vet bills for oral surgery.

"Our pup, Toby, fought having his teeth brushed until we tried C.E.T. Toothpaste. Now he tolerates brushing because he seems to think the toothpaste is a bedtime treat! We started with the poultry flavor because Tobes loves chicken. We went on to try C.E.T.'s beef flavor, which he seems to like equally well. Two paws up!" - Monica

Maintain your pet's oral health.

Brushing is the most effective way to keep your pet's teeth and oral health at its best; however, there are additional products you can use. For especially finicky pets, consider an alternative to brushing, such as Max's Super Dental Wipes. You can also kill bacteria that causes bad breath by adding our Be Fresh Dental Care Solution to your pet's drinking water. And if you've noticed a bad odor coming from your dog's breath, try our 1-800-PetMeds Breath Refresher. Each chewable tablet contains a minty flavor and parsley oil helps to calm your pet's digestive system. However, if your dog's bad breath continues, you may also want to consult your veterinarian, as this could be a symptom of an oral disease.

"The 1-800-PetMeds Breath Refresher tablets are the best. They really work! My dog's breath has no odor and the teeth are cleaner, and he seems to love them because he thinks he is getting a treat." - Evan

Use dental treats as a reward.

Next time you reach for a treat to give your pet, why not try a dental treat instead? Pets love the taste and chewy textures of Greenies Dental Chews and C.E.T. Oral Hygiene Chews. These treats help remove plaque and tartar buildup, but your pet will be too busy chewing away to notice.

"My dog loves Greenies. He knows the difference between treats and Greenies and he will actually go and sit next to the cabinet and ask for a treat - when I give him one of his treats, he won't take it. He will sit there until he gets a greenie. And he KNOWS that he gets 1 greenie every day. He absolutely loves them, and the vet says that his teeth look great. He is still young, 2 years old, but I will continue to give him greenies throughout his life." - Howie

Max's Tip: Routine teeth cleanings should be performed at your veterinarian's office to help remove plaque and tartar buildup.
