Useful Features in a Pet Stroller

Storage compartments on the pet stroller are handy, especially for long walks

If you are in the market for a pet stroller, you know there are many different pet strollers to choose from. Beyond selecting the appropriate size and model of pet stroller based upon your pet’s size and your planned usage of the pet stroller, there are a number of useful features you should look for.  Some pet stroller features will improve the safety of the pet stroller while others are handy accessories.

Important pet stroller safety features:

Most, but not all, pet strollers come with a locking brake to prevent unwanted rolling.  This is especially important if you will be using the pet stroller in hilly terrain. Some pet strollers have a foot brake in the rear, while others have a convenient hand-brake. If you plan to use the pet stroller with the cabin open, make sure the pet stroller comes equipped with a tether that you attach to your dog’s collar to keep him from leaving the cabin. Many pet strollers come equipped with reflective strips for safety at night.

Useful pet stroller accessories:

If you’re going to use the pet stroller during the warmer spring and summer months, you will appreciate a cup holder or water bottle holder built into the stroller. Many pet strollers also have a built-in “parent tray” where you can place your keys, telephone, camera or other small items. Various storage compartments of different sizes on the pet stroller are also handy, especially for long walks where you might want to bring along snacks, pet treats, or a jacket.

Pet stroller features your dog will appreciate:

Most pets will appreciate a pet stroller that is well-ventilated, with a large mesh-covered viewing area to take in the scenery. Look for a pet stroller with a rear window as well, as pets are reassured when they can look back and see you. A washable, removable cushioned insert will make the pet stroller more comfortable for your pet. The cabin of the pet stroller should be made of a water-resistant material in case of inclement weather.

A well-designed pet stroller with useful features will increase the odds that you will enjoy and regularly use your pet stroller.
