Previcox: Frequently Asked Questions

You should not combine Previcox with any other NSAID

Previcox is a popular pet medication used to control your dog’s pain and inflammation caused by arthritis. Previcox is also used to relieve pain due to injury, or for post-operative pain control. If you are a concerned pet guardian considering Previcox for your own dog, you may have questions about Previcox. Here are some common questions about Previcox:

Who is the manufacturer of Previcox?

Previcox is manufactured by Merial Animal Health Ltd.

How quickly does Previcox work?

While response varies from dog to dog, Previcox is fast-acting and begins working within hours of the first dose.

Can Previcox be used with other pain relievers?

You should not give Previcox with any other NSAID or corticosteroid. However, you can combine Previcox with a joint supplement containing glucosamine, chondroitin or MSM.

What side effects may be caused by Previcox?

The most common side effect of Previcox use is digestive upset such as vomiting. However, liver and kidney problems may be caused by NSAIDS such as Previcox.  If you suspect that your dog is experiencing side effects from Previcox, contact your veterinarian immediately.

What is the correct dose of Previcox for my dog?

Previcox is a prescription medication; your veterinarian will prescribe the appropriate dose based upon your dog’s size and medical condition. Follow your vet’s instructions exactly when giving Previcox to your dog. Previcox is available in 57mg and 227mg chewable tablets.  The usual dose is 2.27mg per pound of dog’s weight once per day.

Should my dog take Previcox with food?

Previcox may be given with or without food. However, giving Previcox with food may lessen the chance that your dog will experience digestive upset.
