How to Use Denosyl for Dogs

Denosyl for dogs is a nutritional supplement that helps enhance your pet’s liver function. While Denosyl for dogs is an over-the-counter medication, for your pet to get the most benefit from this supplement, it is important to administer it correctly.
Available strengths of Denosyl for dogs
Denosyl comes in three different dosages: a 90 mg tablet for cats and small dogs up to 12 pounds, a 225 mg tablet for medium dogs 13 to 34 pounds, and a 425 mg tablet for dogs 35 pounds and over. Denosyl for dogs also comes in a chewable version which is available in a 225 mg scored, chewable tablet.
How to administer Denosyl for dogs
Denosyl for dogs has a gastro-resistant coating, and the tablet must be kept intact to prevent destruction by your pet’s stomach acid. Therefore, it is important not to dissolve, crush or break the tablet. The presence of food decreases the absorption of S-Adenosylmethionine so Denosyl for dogs should be given on an empty stomach for best absorption; however, it is not necessary to withhold water. Give Denosyl for dogs at least one hour before feeding, and preferably in the morning. If you need to give more than one tablet per day, you can give Denosyl for dogs in the morning and a second dose in the evening. Should you need to increase or decrease the amount of Denosyl for dogs, adjustments should be made in full tablet increments.
If your pet has difficulty taking Denosyl, a pet piller may help, or you can disguise the tablet in a Pill Pocket or small piece of food. You may also wish to select the chewable version of Denosyl for dogs which your dog takes like a treat.
What is the proper dosage of Denosyl for dogs?
Denosyl for dogs is dosed based upon the weight of your pet, as follows:
Body Weight in Pounds Denosyl Dose
Up to 12# One 90 mg tablet daily
13 – 34# One 225 mg tablet daily
35 – 65# One 425 mg tablet daily
66 – 120# Two 425 mg tablets daily
121# and over Three 425 mg tablets daily
You may gradually reduce or increase the dose of Denosyl for dogs depending upon your pet’s needs and response.
How long will my pet need Denosyl for dogs?
Some pets will only need Denosyl for a short period, while others will require long-term use. Your veterinarian may wish to adjust the dosage, dosing schedule or duration your pet is on Denosyl for dogs depending upon your dog’s response as determined with follow-up veterinary exams and blood work to check your pet’s liver enzymes. Many pets may be maintained long-term on every-other-day or every-third-day administration.
