Sentinel is one of the most comprehensive pet medications around, as it protects your dog from heartworm disease, helps control fleas, and treats roundworm, hookworm and whipworm. While Sentinel is a great choice, Sentinel does not treat ticks. Because ticks can transmit serious diseases, if you live in an area with ticks, it is also important to use a product to control ticks in addition to using Sentinel. What pet medication should your dog use along with Sentinel?

Many people choose Sentinel because they prefer not to use a topical treatment, such as Frontline, to treat fleas on their dog. If your dog uses Sentinel, you may choose a collar such as the Preventic Amitraz Tick Collar to control ticks on your dog. The active ingredient in this tick collar is amitraz, which kills and detaches ticks for up to three months.
