K9 Advantix II: Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you have already used K9 Advantix II to control fleas and ticks on your dog, or you are considering switching to K9 Advantix II from another product, you may have some questions. As you learn more about K9 Advantix II, you will become more confident that this is a great choice for your dog. Here are some of the common questions asked by other pet parents about K9 Advantix II:
Who makes K9 Advantix II?
K9 Advantix II is manufactured by Bayer, one of the most trusted and well-known companies around.
What is the difference between K9 Advantix and K9 Advantix II?
With the ingredients imidacloprid and permethrin, K9 Advantix always killed and repelled adult fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. Now, with the addition of pyriproxyfen, an insect growth regulator, K9 Advantix II treats all stages of the flea life cycle including adult fleas, flea eggs, pupae and larvae. This makes K9 Advantix II even more effective than the original K9 Advantix.
What is the difference between Advantage II and K9 Advantix II?
Like K9 Advantix II, Advantage II is also made by Bayer, and kills all stages of the flea life cycle. However, Advantage II does not repel fleas. Additionally, Advantage II is not effective against ticks, mosquitoes or biting flies. However, while K9 Advantix II is only for use on dogs, Advantage II comes in a size and formulation for dogs and for cats.
What Dose of K9 Advantix II Should I Use?
K9 Advantix II comes in four different doses, based upon the weight of your dog: 1-10 pounds, 11-20 pounds, 21-55 pounds, and 55 pounds and over. If you have a very large dog, you will still use just a single dose of K9 Advantix II for dogs 55 pounds and over; because K9 Advantix II is an insecticide and does not get absorbed beyond the fat layer of the skin when applied, a single dose of K9 Advantix II for dogs 55 lbs and over is enough to protect any dog 55 lbs and over, including giant breeds weighing 150-200 lbs.
Will K9 Advantix II Protect My Dog From Heartworm Disease?
Even though K9 Advantix II kills and repels mosquitoes, it is still possible for your dog to get bitten by a mosquito carrying heartworm larvae, just as you may be bitten by a mosquito even if you are wearing an insect repellent. Therefore, it is very important that your dog also use a heartworm preventative.
When Does My Box of K9 Advantix II Expire?
K9 Advantix II is an insecticide, not a drug, and does not carry an expiration date.
