Choosing the Best Dog Stroller

Taking your dog outdoors is always an adventure. However, some dog owners may wonder if their furry friend needs a stroller. Dog strollers can help avoid stress on your dog's body if he or she is having trouble walking due to joint pain, arthritis, or recent surgery. Strollers are also convenient since they function as a crate on wheels, allowing your dog to keep you company while remaining contained inside the stroller. Consider the following when purchasing a dog stroller:

  • Location: Where will the majority of your outdoor strolls take place? If you plan on jogging with your dog, or taking your dog to locations with rough terrain, the type of wheels on the stroller are a key factor to consider.
  • Size: Keep in mind the age and size of your dog. If you currently have a puppy, you should estimate how much bigger he or she will be when full grown.
  • Portability: Although the size of dog strollers will vary depending on their specific weight restrictions, lightweight strollers can simplify storage.

Below are the types of dog strollers to choose from:

Strollers for small dogs

These compact strollers will easily help make small and toy breeds feel comfortable. The below dog strollers are great for breeds like Yorkies, Shih Tzus, Chihuahuas, and Miniature Poodles.

Strollers for medium-sized dogs

For a medium-sized dog, such as a Pug or Beagle, we recommend the Happy Trails Pet Stroller, which holds dogs up to 30 lbs., or the Special Edition Pet Stroller, which can hold dogs up to 45 lbs.

Strollers for large or multiple dogs

These strollers are considerably bigger to accommodate larger breeds weighing over 45 lbs., or for when your pooch is traveling with another pet. Consider purchasing one of these dog strollers if you have a Springer Spaniel, Labrador Retriever, Dalmation, or any large breed dog, or are carrying more than one small dog.

Strollers for jogging or rough terrain

Sport strollers are the perfect fit when you want to take your dog running with you. Your dog can rest comfortably inside while taking in the sights as you exercise. The Sport Pet Stroller is recommended for dogs weighing less than 15 lbs, while the Roadster Pet Stroller can accomodate dogs weighing up to 100 lbs.

Some dogs may take some time getting used to their stroller, so we recommend gradually using it to help your dog become more comfortable.
