| Question: |
Hi, I Have A 9 Week Old Shih-tzu Puppy, The Other Day I Had Taken Him Outside To Go Potty. He Was Playing And Started Chewing On A Leaf. Later That Night He Started This Coughing And Gaging Spats. I Kept An Eye On Him And He Still Played And Ate His Food Like Normal. The Next Morning He Was Still Coughin And Gaging In Little Short Spats. I Decided To Take Him Into The Vet. They Told Me That He Had Kennel Cough And Gave Me Some Amoxacilin And A Pill Called Torbutrol To Help Ease His Cough. When I Took Him In He Was Running A Feaver And Was Not Realy Doing To Much Moving Around He Acted Pretty Sick. What I Am Woundering Is If This Sounds Like Kennel Cough To You? I Also Have A Female Shih-tzu Who Is 1 1/2 And A Male Who Is 5 Months. They Seem To Be Just Fine No Signs Of Distress At All. They All Play Together And Are Around Each Other All Day Long. I Just Had My Female Bread Last Week And Am Worried If This Is Going To Harm Her Or The Puppies. I Am Concerned That If He Really Has Kennel Cough Did They Give Me The Proper Meds For Him And Wouldn't It Have Affected The Other Dogs As Well?
any Help Would Be Great. thank You

Some Pets Are Susceptible To Infectious Causes Of Cough Like Kennel Cough Complex While Others Are Not. Your Other Pets Might Not Be Susceptible. Also I Dont Like To Use Torbutrol Cough Suppressants In Cases Like This As I Find It Tends To Prolong The Infection Due To Cough Suppressant Effect. I Also Would Prefer Broader Acting Antibiotic Like Clavamox Or Zithromax For This Case
