What is Taste of the Wild Canine Formula Dry Dog Food?

Taste of the Wild Canine Formula foods are hearty and nutritious meals for dogs of any age, size, or breed. Real lean cuts of meat and fish (certified hormone free and antibiotic free) provide highly digestible sources of protein, while sweet potato and peas are used to provide your dog with high levels of energy. Whole fruits and vegetables provide vitamins and antioxidants to boost your dog's immune system. This dog food also contains proteinates (protein compounds), which help your dog's body absorb the nutrients to get the most out of the food. Taste of the Wild is grain free, which makes it a great food for dogs with intolerances or allergies to grains.

Taste of the Wild Canine Dry Food Formula

How it works:
Each batch of Taste of the Wild is cooked with water that is purified through reverse osmosis, the same process used by popular bottled water manufacturers. This helps to remove any microorganisms, organic and inorganic chemicals, and ensures the meats and meat meals are steamed (cooked) with purified water. Taste of the Wild provides your dog with a hearty meal that is not only delicious but also provides essential vitamins and antioxidants to stay healthy and active.

Transitioning Your Dog to Taste of the Wild:
Days 1 & 2: Feed 75% previous dog food and 25% Taste of the Wild.
Days 3 & 4: Feed 50% previous dog food and 50% Taste of the Wild.
Days 5 & 6: Feed 25% previous dog food and 75% Taste of the Wild.
Day 7: Feed 100% Taste of the Wild.

Tip: Digestive upset caused by a diet change can sometimes be prevented by mixing some non-fat plain yogurt in with your dog's food each day during the transition. The live cultures within the yogurt will help balance the flora within the digestive system and minimize flatulence or loose stools that are sometimes associated with a diet change.

Taste Of The Wild Dry Dog Food 5 5 15 15
Good Mood Food Started using Taste of the Wild when my Golden Retriever started having "hot Spots", which seemed to happen on a monthly basis. Vets couldn't figure out why. He was getting shots of steroids and antibiotics with no real relief...So I decided to switch dog foods. Started out with Blue Buffalo which is very good in ratings, but by dog wouldn't eat it. So I switch to Taste of the Wild....no more skin problems, and they eat it with no problem. As a matter of fact, they will stand at their dishes when it is time for meals to let me know they are hungry...wow, a wonderful product. 04/19/2012
the best! I have started using this product since I began researching dry pet foods for my two dogs last year, and they love it, I love that they love it. The ingredients listed speak for themselves. I have always read great reviews on this product and it is all true. I feel safe with my dogs eating TOW. I will not buy anything else. 03/25/2012
Great food I have 2 golden retrievers. One is 5 and half years old and has always had stomach problems no matter what I tried. I read a lot on dog foods and decided to try taste of the wild pacific stream. His stomach issues are fixed now! Not to mention that both retrievers absolutely love the food. They both look and feel very healthy! I also switched all 4 of my cats to a taste of the wild food as well. 02/19/2012
LOVE THIS FOOD I have a standard poodle with tons of skin issues......didnt know it was allergies that was causing his weepy eyes and repeated yeast infections in his ears.....Took him off all grains and started him on Taste of the Wild and OOMG, skin is clear, eyes are clear, no more ear infections..and he has filled out nicely without getting fat. 01/28/2012
Better than prescription food. My dog has a sensitive stomach the vet recommend a prescription and meds. At the advice of a boutique pet store I tried taste of the wild. He rarely throws up any more and doesn't need the medicine. His weight is excellent and coat is lovely. I would not feed him any thing else. This product has been life changing. 10/12/2011

Try mixing it with the canned food by taste of the wild and some keifer yogurt (plain). If all else fails keep putting it down. Eventually she will get hungry enough and learn to eat it

Q:
I have read that you should change your dog food every 3 or 4 months because of the different protein levels. I have recently changed to Taste of the Wild because of its ratings and of customer reviews and would like to alternate the flavors for my dog.

Answer this Question

A:
If your dog tolerates it, switching foods every so often is great. Dogs benefit from a wide variety of different protein sources. Switching it up can even help prevent food allergies. And it's also some "fun" variety for your dog.

That said, if this were my dog, I would do a transition period between formulas. Just buy the new bag when you still got a little of the old one. Each formula has different protein sources.. not necessarily different "levels." Last time I checked, the protein levels in all of the TOTW formulas were very similar.

A:
Often changing a dog's food leads to stomach upsets. I doubt protein levels need to be changed much unless the dog is graduating from a puppy to an adult and an adult to a senior. Taste of the Wild offers different protien levels for many reasons including that some dogs can not tolerate high protein without out getting the runs, like my dog, and protein promotes growth and Taste of the Wild is suitable for all lifestages, i.e the growth spurts of puppyhood . With that being said, switching between the different flavors should be done with some transition, but not as gradual as switching different brands. I hope this helps.

I actually buy 2 bags at a time each a different flavor. I give one in the am and one in the pm, have never had trouble with this and I've been feeding this to my Standard Poodle and German sheppart puppy for last year.
