What is Fiproguard™ (Generic to Frontline® Top Spot®)?
Fiproguard™ is the generic equivalent to Frontline® Top Spot® and it contains the same active ingredient, Fipronil. Just like Frontline® Top Spot®, it can be easily squeezed onto your pet's skin and protects him or her from adult fleas, ticks and chewing lice. It is an affordable alternative for flea and tick control.
Fiproguard™ kills 4 types of tick species, including deer ticks (the major carrier of Lyme disease), brown dog ticks, American dog ticks, and lone star ticks.
Fiproguard™ is manufactured by Sergeant's Pet Care Products, not by Merial, the makers of Frontline® Top Spot®.

How it works:
Fiproguard™ contains fipronil, which is a broad-spectrum insecticide. It is a slow-acting chemical that disrupts the central nervous system of fleas and ticks. Once Fiproguard™ is applied correctly between your pet's shoulder blades, it works to kill adult fleas and ticks on his or her skin and coat. Fiproguard™ works like Frontline® Top Spot® so it can take up to 18 hours to start working.
Cautions:
Although allergic reactions are rare, they are possible. Contact your veterinarian if your pet shows any signs of a reaction after you apply Fiproguard™.
Do not use multiple tubes on one pet.
Fiproguard™ is meant for cat and dog use only, do not use Fiproguard™ on other animals.
Do not apply more frequently than every 4 weeks.

Good Product
At the time of purchase got it for one dog and two cats. I used it on all of them with no problems, allergies or otherwise. I did end up having to put it on them every three weeks instead of every four weeks (this was okay'd by my vet). I am not sure if this is because the product is lacking or because of the very mild winter here (Louisiana) not killing off the as much of the flea population as usual.

FiproGuard Flea
Going on the cheap, I decided to give Fiproguard a try. The use is the same as Frontline, remove the top and squeeze the liquid onto the back of the cat inbetween the shoulder blades. All went well for the first week, then my two cats both started scrathcing again. I would say this stuff was good for 10 to 14 days, that was it. I would stick with Frontline, that does well for my cats for the 4 to 6 weeks that they say it is good for. Fiproguard claims 4 weeks, but it was only half that. Buyer beware, you get what you pay for. >^..^<

FINALLY!!!
I have tried all other brands w/o any success... I tried this one because of the lower price & lo & behold it worked!!! I'm so happy, that I had to write a review, which I never do... I'm sorry for those other owners who have not been successful w/this product, all I know is that it's perfect for my pom-pom Coco....

I asked the same thing. No prescription is needed for fiproguard. The only time you need a prescription for preventives is if the product also treats/kills internal parasites.
I'm not aware of any age restriction. You can use this product on your 22 year old cat, yes. However, if your cat does have some medical conditions due to his/her age, you may want to check with your veterinarian first.
