•
Simple and attractive design
How it works:
The hardware mounts keep your gate securely in place. The latching gate handle and door allow for you to freely move from room to room.
Optional Elongate Wide Pet Gate 24" Extensions:
One Optional Extention for openings 5' to 7'
Two Optional Extensions for openings 7' to 9'
Three Optional Extensions for openings 9' to 11'
Four Optional Extensions for openings 11' to 13' No more than four extension kits per gate.
Cautions:
For pets only. If using gate on a stairway it must be placed
either on top stair or on lowest stair at bottom.
If using on a top step, use of an optional step
plate is recommended to reduce tripping
potential.
Screws provided are for mounting directly
into wood. If mounting into brick, drywall
or other surfaces, use appropriate hardware.
If installing into hardwood (i.e. oak),
drilling a pilot hole may be necessary.
•
Hold template against mounting surface,
making sure end marked with the downward arrow is even with
floor.
Mark 4 screw hole positions.
Remove template.
•
Using 2 wood screws and only lower
screw holes, mount hinge bottoms with
posts pointing up. Top screw holes will be
used later.
•
Screw hinge spindles into top and bottom
rails of second section until they are
extended equally. These will be adjusted to
correct length at a later stage so do not
tighten.
Mounting Locking Side
•
Screws provided are for mounting directly
into wood. If mounting into brick, drywall
or other surfaces, use appropriate hardware.
If installing into hardwood (i.e. oak)
drilling a pilot hole may be necessary.
•
Hold template against mounting surface in
line with opposite hinges, making sure end
marked with the downward arrow is even with floor.
Mark 4 screw hole positions.
Remove template.
•
Fit a locking latch into locking latch bracket
and using 2 screws, screw into lower
set of screw holes.
•
Fit remaining locking latch into remaining
locking latch bracket.
•
Determine which direction gate should open.
For stairways, gate should never open out
over stairs. As an added safety measure, a stop pin has
been provided. Insert stop pin from behind
locking latch bracket into hole opposite gate
opening direction.
•
Using 2 wood screws, screw into upper set of
screw holes.
Push bottom latch spindle into lower rail
of main gate section.
•
The correct width will be reached by adjusting
gate sections and all four corner spindles.
Each spindle adjusts individually and
may be extended to varying lengths to allow
for molding, uneven walls, etc. Spindles may
be extended a minimum of 1" but not more
than 4" on each side.
•
Adjust gate sections until gate is approximately
right width and adjustment holes are
aligned top and bottom. Sections should fit
without any distance between bars.
•
Gate sections must not be extended any
further than 4 adjustment holes from
spindle ends of gate and holes must
overlap at two places on both the top
and bottom railing.
•
Place one set of expansion screws and
screw sockets in top and bottom set
of overlapping adjustment holes nearest hinge
side of gate and second set of expansion
screws and screw sockets in overlapping
holes nearest locking side of gate. Tighten
with screwdriver.
•
Push stabilizing foot into vertical tube.
Use of stabilizing foot is optional unless one
or more (maximum 4) optional extensions are
used.
•
Center gate in opening. Gaps on each side
should be equal.
•
Place hinge spindles over hinge bottom
posts, dropping them into place. Adjust
latch spindles out until they fit securely into
the two locking brackets. Latch spindles
must be adjusted so they click under locking
latch when in closed position.
•
Space between end of gate and mounting
surface should be no less than 1" and not
more than 4" on each side. Check that gate can be easily opened and
closed without catching.
•
Place a spring and hinge cap on each
hinge post. This may require some manipulation
to ensure hinge posts fit and holes line
up. Insert remaining screws and tighten. With
wrench tighten lock nuts on all spindles
towards gate.
•
WARNING: The spring must be placed
OVER hinge spindle and hinge cap must
be installed as directed.
•
A protective plastic cover is provided for
the top latch spindle. Cut cover, remove latch
spindle and put cover on. Return spindle and
adjust to correct length.
Using the Elongate Wide Pet Gate
•
To open walk through section, press down on
top locking latch, lift walk through section so
hinge is raised, and slide out of bracket.
•
Note: The gate should always be in locked
position. If gate is open and excessive
pressure is applied, hinge posts are designed
to break to prevent structural damage.
•
To close gate, lift walk through section and
position safety foot onto frame, making sure
hinge has dropped down. To lock gate,
latch spindle at top must click under locking
latch.
Tip: Gate must be installed in a structurally
sound opening. Hinge side of gate
must be mounted to a rigid surface.
Ensure mounting surface (wall, door frame,
stair post etc.) is strong, rigid and has an even
surface.
Cautions
•
If using gate on a stairway it must be placed
either on top stair or on lowest stair at bottom.
If using on a top step, use of an optional step
plate is recommended to reduce tripping
potential.
•
If using out doors, and to help prevent rust,
treat all exposed metal on gate with a rust
inhibitor. Some rusting may still occur.

Perfect for permanent mount
This is a heavy duty gate that I mounted with screws to the door frame to an unused bathroom. This is the cat's room for litter box and food and it works purrrfectly for this purpose. The dogs cannot get through or over the gate and cannot push it down. The cats can go over the top or under the bottom. I did not get a pressure mounted one and have to assume that, due to the weight of this steel gate, using pressure mounting would put dents in door frames. I used the screws and if I must remove the gate in the future some colored plastic wood will fill the screw holes easily. I highly recommend this sturdy, well constructed product.

Not pressure mounted
Unfortunately the gate I received was not pressure mounted. We have very nice woodwork and did not want it ruined by a puppy gate that would only be needed for a few months so we found a pressure mounted gate instead.

There are two base gate sizes. One is 36" wide and the other is about 24". With the 36" you would need extensions to fit the width you are looking for. Only one extension on each side of the base will work. I bought the 3" and 7" extensions to fit a 51" wide doorway. The extensions are additional cost to the base gate. For my dogs, I like the higher 39" high gate.
