Each batch of Canidae is tested for quality during the in-production run and is manually checked for freshness and quality.

Cautions: None

Transitioning Your Dog to Canidae:
Days 1 & 2: Feed 75% previous dog food and 25% Canidae.
Days 3 & 4: Feed 50% previous dog food and 50% Canidae.
Days 5 & 6: Feed 25% previous dog food and 75% Canidae.
Day 7: Feed 100% Canidae.
In most cases slowly transitioning is not possible. In that case, feed smaller portions more regularly by breaking up the daily intake to 3 to 4 feedings per day. Adding warm water to the food will also decrease the chance of your dog eating too quickly and not chewing thoroughly. Gulping a highly palatable product could cause vomiting.
If at any time during the transition, your dog experiences gastro-intestinal upset, keep the ratio of new to old food the same for several days. This will allow your dog to adjust to the new ratio before you incorporate more of the new food. In the event you are not transitioning with your old food, withhold food for 1 day and then start re-introducing 3 to 4 feedings per day mixed with warm water. All other treats and supplements should be withheld until fully transitioned.
You may notice a change in the appearance of your dog's stool even after the transition period. This can often be a result of a change in the amount of fiber and protein in the new diet and is normal.

Directions:
The below suggested feeding guidelines are a good starting point on the amount of food to feed your dog on a daily basis. If your dog eats more than once per day, simply divide the suggested feeding guidelines by the amount of times fed per day.
Pregnant dogs, during the last 3 weeks of pregnancy, should be fed up to 50% more than the recommended amount for an adult dog.
During lactation and for puppies, feed twice the amount of food as suggested for an adult dog. Lactating dogs should be fed 3 to 4 times a day. Puppies (six months to a year) should be fed twice daily.
Senior and overweight dogs may be fed a reduced amount, depending on the dog's weight and activity level.

Tip: Diets that are grain free, high protein, and low carbohydrate may not be suitable for all dogs. If you have dietary concerns, please consult with your veterinarian.

Great Food My dog, Hope usually does not like dry food but when I opened the bag to give her some , she started eatting eat right away. I 'm glad it is grain free since she has some allergies. I will recommend this to everyone. At times she has trouble eating dry food so I grind some up and mix it with alittle warm water and she licks the bowl clean and looks at me to see if I am gonna give her more ! Thanks 02/26/2012
Absolutely Satisfied Own 3 shih-tzu. Allergies, skin irritations, chewing paws. Bought the best shampoos, etc, but your dogs are mainly affected by what they eat. Stopped all problems, vet bills, and especially vomiting and stomach gurgling! So worth it. I read the label and compared all the top products. This one has the most % of all the ingredients as compared to the rest. Many meats are a direct cause of problems along with the grains. Eliminate them and you solve all the problems! 07/16/2011
Great food, highly recomend I purchased this based on the other 2 reviews and helpfulness with poor coat and skin issues. WOW, this product is great. We are using it on our newest family member, a 5 year old miniature poodle rescue. After a month on this food he hardly resembles the same dog we brought home. We have watched the feeding ammount and he has lost a much needed 2 pounds. His coat was dry and brittle, now soft and has luster. His skin from years of chronic flea and allergy was discolored, rough and he itched constantly. Still will take some months to totally improve but much softer and no scratching. Can't wait to see him in another 3-4 months. Great product. 06/04/2011
Great Coat I have two Basset Hounds and once I found this food I have never looked back. Everyone always comments on how soft and shiny their coats are. When I rescued one of my hounds her fur was extremely dry and brittle, After two weeks on the Canidae the change in her coat was obvious to everyone and she sheds way less too. I feed both my hounds nothing but Canidae grain free kibble with a bit of Canidae ALS canned food (the only grain is brown rice). 12/21/2010
Fantastic results - allergy free dog I have a Shih-Tzu that suffered with skin allergies for four years. I switched to Canidae Grain free ALS food and he no longer has to take prednisone, no longer rubs his face or chews his paws until they are raw. His coat comes in beautiful now too. It has been a wonderful transformation for him. I now have a puppy and I'm feeding him the same product and he is doing well also. I must say we tried many different brands of food even the vet prescription diets and CANIDAE has been a dogs best friend at our house. 11/06/2010

Yes, if you are feeding this food. If you just started be sure to weigh him once a week. If your not offering treats you may even need to 1.5 cups per day.

Q:
I have a 65 lb lab/golden mix, who's 1 yr. old.
I'm feeding him 1.5 cups twice a day. He's pretty lean, in fact his ribs show slightly. Is he getting enough to eat?

A:
Dave, feeding requirements for dogs vary based upon the individual dog's age and activity level. The manufacturer's feeding guideline for adult dogs 51-75 pounds is 2-3 cups per day. Very active dogs may need more food, and if your dog seems very hungry you may need to increase his food.

Q:
I'm currently feeding my 3 yr old German Shepherd mixing about 1/2 canned and 2 cups dry kibble( both are Canidae). Do I have to gradually transition from the original Canidae to Grain Free? or Can feed her 100% of the Grain Free the first time?

I know that if I am transitioning from a different brand of dog food that I have to do it gradually.

Thank you.

Hi, Notahoarder549, good question. For fish, the entire fish is included. The turkey and chicken meal contain necks and backs, no feathers. feet or beaks. The lamb contains meat trimmings and some attached bone.
