Cautions:
Exposure to this product's main ingredient, propoxur, may create a health risk to pet owners, most notably young children. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. When applying collar, it's best to use rubber gloves. And wash hands, arms, and face, and any clothing thoroughly with soap and hot water afterwards, in case of contamination. Harmful if swallowed or absorbed through skin.

More Information:
Brand Name
Bio Spot Flea and Tick Collar with IGR for Dogs
Active Ingredient(s): Propoxur (CAS #114-26-1) 10%, (S)-Methoprene (CAS# 65733-16-6) 2.1%

What is this product used for: Bio Spot Flea and Tick Collar with IGR kills fleas, ticks, flea eggs and flea larvae for up to 5 months.

Availability: Bio Spot Flea and Tick Collar with IGR for Dogs and puppies 12 weeks of age and older is a non-prescription (OTC) product. It is available for small dogs with necks up to 15 inches and large dogs with necks up to 25 inches.

How this product should be used: Buckle collar around dog/puppies neck. Collar should fit snug enough to prevent placement of dog/puppies leg or lower jaw through the collar, yet loose enough to be rotated about the neck. Leave 1 or 2 extra inches on the length of the collar for adjustment, cut off excess and dispose of in trash. Check periodically and adjust fit if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing. Replace in 5 months for continuous protection from adult fleas, ticks, and flea eggs. Collar does not need replacement if dog/puppy becomes wet.

What are the side effects: When collar is first worn, observe neck area every few days for irritation. Remove collar at first sign of irritation or adverse reaction. Sensitivities may occur after using any pesticide product for pets. If signs of sensitivity occur, remove collar and bathe dog/puppy with mild soap and rinse with large amounts of water.

What special precautions are there: Read entire label before each use. For animals, consult a veterinarian before using this product on debilitated, aged, pregnant, medicated, or nursing animals. Do not use on dogs/puppies less than 12 weeks of age. Do not use this product on dogs/puppies simultaneously or within 30 days before or after treatment with or exposure to cholinesterase inhibiting drugs or pesticides (e.g. carbaryl or tetrachlorvinphos, etc.). For humans, do not get dust or collar in mouth. Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do not open package until ready to use. Do not allow children to play with collar. Pesticidal dust will form on this collar during storage. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling collar.

In the event of overdose: Call a veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.

How should I store this product: Store in original unopened package away from children. Dispose of in trash. If collar is temporarily removed, wrap in paper or plastic; do not allow children to have access to collar. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

Directions:
Buckle the collar around your dog's neck. The collar should fit snug enough to prevent dog's leg or jaw from getting caught in the collar.
Leave 1-2 extra inches on the length of the collar for adjustment, cut off excess, and dispose in trash.
Bio Spot Flea and Tick Collars should be replaced every 5 months.
Wash hands after placing collar on pet.
Tip: Check collar periodically to see if collar needs adjusting.

This collar has a very loud smell for a few days, but is very effective. No signs of fleas on Sachi nor my large lab, Misty. 05/10/2013
works enough This collar works well enough I haven't had any issues with fleas but have found the occasional tick. The major downside of it is it makes her very itchy. (itchiness is not from fleas, it must be some ingredient causing this) 04/16/2013
It dosen't work!!!! With 4 pets in the house fleas and ticks are a major concern. We have seen no change in the flea population with this product, have had one dog (Dorah) that has been diagnosed with Limes, Guess that shows how well the collars work on ticks. We are very disappointed with Bio Spot. 09/04/2012
Fairly Effective I've read several reviews and was a bit leery of the product. However, I find the collar decent at keeping the ticks at bay. We have a huge population of ticks in our area. This was the first time using Bio Spot for anything, but it was the only thing readily available at the time I needed something. Our puppy is only 14 weeks and has not had any adverse reactions that we've noticed. With regard to handling fleas, Roscoe received a flea bath just prior to receiving his new collar--have not found any fleas on him. 06/11/2012
Never again! I couldn't stand the smell of the collar, (or my dog for a week after I took off the collar and threw it away!) Terrible product! 04/29/2012

Hi there, BioSpot collar also has flea medication so you dont want to double dose them. However we have a tick collar called Preventic Amitraz Tick Collar. This would work perfect for you. :)

Is this dangerous?

The fact that there was a *Caution* and we could have health issues scared me, I don't want to think that I could get ill If I forget to wash my hands or wear gloves after I put it on my dog.

I'm sorry that you feel frightened by the warnings on this product. The warnings, and they exist on all insecticide products, are meant to inform, not to scare. These are potent chemicals that should not harm you or the pet when used as directed on the package label. The warnings are meant to advise you to follow certain cautions when using these products so they do not become a health issue to you.
